“I believe you meant to say yes.”
“I believe you’re crazy.”
Crazy for you. “Maybe, but I’m a damn good cook, and you know it.”
“I can’t argue with that, but…”
“I hate buts.”
“You used to like mine.”
“I still do.” He smiled, recalling how shapely she’d looked in her Levi’s.
“Anyway… It’s a bad idea, especially after what happened the other night.”
“That was two weeks ago!”
“Have you been keeping track?”
Why deny it? “We’re still good together. I think we proved that in your kitchen.”
“Physically, maybe.”
“Come over for dinner, Jen. We’ll just sit and talk, if that’s all you want.”
She sighed again, but it sounded different this time, like she was considering it. “It’s not fair.”
“What isn’t?” The last time she’d said that, she’d been referring to his good looks.
“That you’re such an excellent cook. You know how I love to eat.”
He’d been counting on that. “Is that a yes?”
“On one condition.”
“Name it.”
“There’s no kissing allowed.”
“Even though we’re so good at it?”
“Beck,” she warned.
“Fine. No kissing.”
“I mean it.”
“I hear you.”
“What are you making for dinner?”
He chuckled. “I’ll surprise you.”
“I hate surprises.”
“You’ll like this one.”
“Will there be dessert?”
