She didn’t throw another strike; however, she learned a lot more about him, so she considered the evening a success. And it wasn’t over yet.

After the final game, when the scores were tallied and their beer glasses emptied, Stacy looked at Hudson and said, “Would you mind driving Kelsey home? We drove here together, but—”

“She’s coming home with me,” Nick said, slipping his arm around Stacy’s waist.

Kelsey nervously licked her lips while she awaited his answer. Luckily, she didn’t have to wait long.

“Of course. I’d be happy to.”

“Great,” Stacy said, looking pleased that their plan had worked.

Kelsey simply looked at him and smiled, her gaze flicking down to his lips. They were full and inviting, and she’d been admiring them all night. Before, she’d tried to be subtle about it, but not this time.

As the four of them walked out of the bowling alley, she thought, I’m going to kiss those lips someday. She hoped someday would come sooner than later, maybe even tonight…

Hudson’s head was buzzing, his nerve-endings pulsing, his adrenaline flowing full throttle, and it had nothing to do with the alcohol he’d consumed. He owed it all to the pretty woman sitting in the passenger seat.

When Nick had invited him to go bowling with Stacy and Kelsey, he’d immediately said yes. Nick had laughed knowingly, but Hudson hadn’t minded. He had no reason to hide his attraction to her from Nick. It was her brother he was worried about. Luckily, Jared had gone on a date before Hudson had left for the bowling alley, so he was safe for now.

“What else do you excel at besides bowling?” Kelsey said. She shot him a flirtatious glance, or so he wanted to believe.

“Sports-wise?”

“We can start there.”

“I played a few different sports in school: baseball, football, soccer.”

“Which was your favorite?”

“Baseball. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as when the bat connects with the ball.”

“Hmm. Can’t say I’ve ever had that experience.”

“With baseball or any sport?”

“I wasn’t into sports, but I was a cheerleader. Does that count?”

He chuckled. “I could see you as a cheerleader.”

“Is that good or bad?”

“Good. It goes with your perky personality.”

“Perky, huh? I’ve been called worse.”

“I meant it as a compliment.”

“Thank you.”

“Were you and Jared close growing up?”

“Yes and no. He was the typical overprotective big brother, but we didn’t have a lot in common.”

“Funny how that happens in families.”

“What about you and Emily?”
