Nick clasped her hand, his palm warm but not clammy and his handshake firm but not too tight. Is this guy for real?
“Nice to meet you too,” he said, his voice deep and rich to match his eyes.
Wait until Kelsey and Paige meet him. They’re going to flip!
“Well. I’ll let you two get started. I’m sure you have a lot to teach him,” Fran said. She turned to walk out and then paused. “Oh, and I thought it might be nice if the three of us went out to lunch today. Let’s meet in the lobby at noon.” Then she walked out, not bothering to wait for a response.
Still in shock, Stacy scrambled to collect herself. She’d trained good-looking men before, but none that had come close to this level of hotness.
“The first thing I usually do is give a tour, unless Fran already did that.”
He shook his head. “Lead the way.”
She walked past him and tried not to inhale, although she’d already caught a whiff of his fresh-smelling cologne. As they went down the hall, he maintained a polite distance, but she was still acutely aware of his presence.
She attempted to look unaffected, but it was difficult given the stares they received.
“The customer service department takes up the entire first floor. I’ll show you where the employee lounge is, and then we’ll go upstairs.”
After they made it past all the gawkers, she pushed open the door to the lounge, hoping that it wouldn’t be too busy. Lo and behold, she almost smacked into Kelsey, and Paige was standing right behind her. Stacy shot them a warning look before she made the introductions.
“Nick, this is Kelsey and Paige. They both work in customer service.”
“And we’re all friends,” Kelsey proudly added. She shook Nick’s hand, holding on for longer than was necessary.
“So you’re Fran’s nephew,” Paige said with a bemused expression.
“That’s right. She and my mom are sisters.”
Paige nodded. “Welcome aboard.”
“I’m giving him a tour,” Stacy said as if she needed to explain herself.
“Well, you’re in good hands. Have fun,” Kelsey said, smiling at Nick.
Stacy turned to leave, and he was right on her heels. It was almost like being followed around by a cute puppy, though cute was too mild a word to describe him.
They took the stairs to the second floor, and she was glad the staircase was wide enough for them to walk side by side. She couldn’t imagine walking ahead of him with her butt in his face, although it wasn’t bad, as far as butts went.
“How long have you worked here?” he asked.
“Six years.”
“You must really like it.”
“I do.”
“Have you been a trainer the whole time?”
“No. I started out in customer service.”
“Have you always reported to my aunt?”
“Um-hmm.”
“How is she to work for?”
She paused at the second-floor landing and glanced around. Nobody had spotted them yet, and no one was within hearing distance. Still, his question made her uncomfortable.
