“It wasn’t like our book, Kelsey.” It was so much better!

“Well, don’t keep me in suspense! What happened?”

“I’ll tell you, but you have to promise not to breathe a word of this to anyone, and especially not at work.”

“You sound like a broken record. Just tell me!”

“We talked for a while, and he told me he didn’t want me to go out with Eric.”

“How did he even know about that?”

“Eric told him he was going to ask me out.”

“Interesting.”

“Anyway, Nick asked me to go out with him instead. He made a pretty solid case for it, and I decided to cancel my date with Eric.”

“How did Eric take it?”

“Pretty good since he’d already been tipped off by Nick.”

“This story is getting better by the second.”

“Nick made him think I was sort of seeing someone to try and discourage him from asking me out.”

“Stop right there. I must admit that I’m so jealous right now! You had not one, but two of the hottest guys in the office vying for your attention. It’s like a dream come true.”

“Not exactly. I felt bad about canceling on Eric. I basically had to lie to him.”

“He’ll get over it. Let’s go back to Nick. What happened next?”

Stacy inhaled deeply, which, of course, Kelsey heard.

“Let me guess. You had sex with him.”

Squeezing her eyes shut, Stacy said, “Yes.”

She should have covered her ears too because Kelsey squealed so loudly that it hurt her eardrums.

“Yay! You finally broke your dry streak! How was it?”

Stacy opened her eyes and smiled at the images that flashed through her mind. “Amazing.”

“Okay, now I’m really jealous, but also extremely happy for you.”

“Thanks.”

“So, what happened afterward?”

She’d gone this far… “We spent most of the weekend together, here and at his new apartment.” She decided to leave out the part about hiding in his bedroom when Fran came over and making out in the parking lot after breakfast.

“Wow. What a weekend you had.”

“I’m still trying to process it. Everything happened so fast.”

“Not really. You two had off-the-charts chemistry from the start.”

“I guess so.”
