“The grounds are really nice too,” he said.

She didn’t dare turn around lest she bump right into his chest. She’d barely moved a muscle since he’d walked up behind her. She wasn’t sure how long they stood there before her stomach growled, marking an embarrassing end to their private moment.

Nick chuckled and stepped back. “It must be time for lunch.”

Her cheeks heated as she turned away from the window. It was probably more from his proximity than the embarrassing sound of her stomach, but hopefully, he hadn’t guessed that.

“I’ll just take a quick peek at the other rooms, and then we can leave.”

This time, she waited at the doorway to the second bedroom instead of going inside. She did the same when he checked out the bathroom; otherwise, they would have been right on top of each other.

Right on top of each other. Oh boy.

When he peered into the shower stall, she imagined him taking one. She envisioned water streaming down his hard, naked body, his hands massaging shampoo into his thick, dark hair, his…

“Stacy?”

“Hmm?”

“Ready to go?”

Ready to go. Why did every sentence out of his mouth make her think of sex? It was becoming a serious problem.

“Yes. Let’s go.”

She felt relieved when they went outside and climbed back into her car.

“There’s a pool and exercise facility too,” he said as she drove back to the leasing office.

“Do you want to take a look before we leave?”

He glanced at his sport watch, which made his masculine wrist look even manlier. “That’s okay. I can always come back later.”

She could have stayed in the car while he returned the keys, but she got out without even thinking. It turned out to be a mistake.

When they reentered the leasing office, the receptionist looked up and smiled. “What did you think?”

“It looks great,” Nick said.

“What does your girlfriend think?” She turned her attention to Stacy, who couldn’t believe what she’d heard and froze in place.

He took one look at her and said, “She’s speechless.”

“Would you like to take the leasing paperwork home with you?”

“Yes, please.”

The receptionist must have already had it prepared, as she handed him a stack of papers. “We’ll put a temporary hold on the unit, but you’ll need to return the paperwork by Friday.”

“Will do.”

“Have a nice day,” she trilled as they turned and walked out.

Stacy was still in shock when they climbed back into the car. She’d presumed she looked too old for Nick, but Happy Leasing Girl must have thought otherwise. Why had she assumed they were together? They hadn’t touched, stood too close, nor spoken to each other in front of her. Had Stacy given off a vibe that she was unaware of? Had he? Of the two of them, it must have been her. After all, she’d been having dreams about him the past few nights. She’d been the one picturing him in bed and taking a shower in the apartment. He hadn’t said or done anything to indicate he was interested in her. Or had he?

“Everything okay? Besides the obvious, I mean.”

“The obvious?”
