“Got it! I wouldn’t want Maria coming after me. Your sister scares me.”

Morgan laughed, and Gabe smiled. “Okay, that’s all for now.” Turning his attention to Morgan, he said, “If you need anything, just ask.”

“I will. Thanks, Gabe.”

It was the first time she’d said his name since she’d been there, and he liked the sound of it on her lips. In fact, he liked her lips too. Dammit! Where was this coming from?

He watched them walk out, and since her back was turned, he allowed himself to admire the view. Her wavy blonde hair cascaded down to the middle of her back. Her blouse was tucked into dress pants, which drew his attention to her tiny waist, and her bottom was high and round. She moved with a confidence and grace that she must have acquired with age. She was no longer the giggly, immature teenager he remembered. She was all woman—beautiful, whip-smart, and sweet—a lethal combination.

He might regret assigning Stefan to work with her, but the alternative was even worse. Gabe could have trained her himself, but he’d been wise not to. He couldn’t imagine working that closely with her every day for the next three months and not wanting to discover more about her. What made her tick? What were her likes and dislikes? What was she like in bed?

He smacked his palm to his forehead, trying to knock some sense into himself, angry at his reaction to a woman he hadn’t seen in nine years. It had been a while since he’d been with someone, and he decided that was the reason for his wayward thoughts.

He’d been so busy at work that he hadn’t had much time for dating. In fact, the last woman he’d dated had broken it off for that very reason. She’d tired of coming in second behind his job, and he hadn’t blamed her. He needed to get back out there again, but first, he’d have to summon the energy for it.

Just then, his cell phone rang, and Maria’s name appeared on the display.

“Hey, sis.”

“Hi. How’s it going with Morgan?”

“Good. She’s training with Stefan right now.”

“Stefan? Really? Why couldn’t you train her?”

“What’s wrong with Stefan?”

“He’s an insufferable flirt.”

“So?”

“Oh, never mind. He’s not her type anyway.”

“She’s here to do a job, Maria. I’m not running a dating service.”

“I know, but maybe we could find someone to set her up with while she’s here. She recently broke up with Lucas, and she deserves to meet a nice guy.”

Lucas—so he’d remembered correctly. “What was wrong with Lucas?”

“He was a two-timing asshole.”

If there was one thing Gabe couldn’t abide, it was cheating. If he was with a woman, he was all in until he was out.

“I’m sure she’s capable of finding a nice guy on her own.”

“What about your friend from the gym, Caleb?”

“No.”

“Why not?”

“We’re not having this discussion. I’m at work.”

“You’re no fun.”

“I’m hanging up now.”

“Joshua?”
