“So, what do you and my sister have planned for the weekend?”

“We’re just going to hang out and watch a movie tonight, but she wants me to go on a double date with her tomorrow.”

He’d been watching the road, but he shot her a curious glance. “You don’t sound too enthused about it.”

“I’m not a big fan of blind dates.”

“Who is he? Maybe I know him.”

“Someone she works with. His name starts with an M, but I can’t remember if it was Mark or Mike.”

He chuckled, though he didn’t like the idea of her going out with a stranger.

“Why don’t you just tell her no if you don’t want to go?”

She shrugged. “It’s not like I have a lot of other options. I only know two people here, you and Maria.”

“You could go shopping, or get your hair done, or go to the spa.”

She scowled. “Is that what you think all women like to do?”

“Well, don’t you?”

“Not always. Besides, I’m young and single. I shouldn’t be sitting home alone on a Saturday night.”

“We could do something.” Crap! The idea had slipped out of his mouth before he’d been able to stop it.

“Us?”

“Sure. Why not?”

“I figured you’d have a hot date with the bagel lady or something.”

He shook his head. “Not that again.”

“What would we do?”

“Any number of things. For starters, we could go out for dinner, or I could cook.”

“You cook?”

“Grill mostly, but yes.”

“What can you make?”

“Whatever you want.”

He swore her eyes sparkled, and he might have puffed out his chest some.

“Can you grill a good steak?”

“Absolutely.”

“We’ll see about that.”

“So, is that a yes?”

“On one condition.”
