“I’m not sure how to answer that.”

“The truth would be fine.”

He scratched the back of his head and fished for the right response. Instead of answering, he opened his mouth, and another question fell out.

“What are you doing tomorrow?”

“Huh?”

“Do you have plans?”

“With Seb?”

He sighed. “Just answer the question.”

“No. Why?”

She turned toward him and crossed her legs, her dress riding up a bit in the process. He was in it now.

“I just thought, if you’re not doing anything, maybe you and I…maybe we…”

She leaned in as if silently encouraging him to continue.

Looking into those expressive brown orbs, he spit out the rest. “Maybe we could do something together.”

Her eyebrows practically reached the cathedral ceiling. “The two of us?”

“Yes. Unless you’d rather not.”

“No. I mean, yes, I’d like to do something with you.”

Keep it clean. Keep it clean. “Okay. Great.”

“What would you like to do?”

You. So much for keeping it clean! “Do you golf?”

She giggled. “Golf? Not exactly.”

He relaxed a little because the hard part was over. She’d said yes. “Would you like to learn?”

“Um…”

“We could go to the driving range first. You can hit some balls and see how you like it. If you don’t, we’ll do something else.”

She nodded. “That sounds fair.”

Her response wasn’t overly enthusiastic, but he’d take it. If it meant she’d be spending time with him instead of Seb, it was a win-win.

“I don’t have golf clubs or anything.”

“No problem. We’ll rent them.”

“Are you sure you want to do this?”

She was giving him an out, and if he were smart, he would take it. But the idea of going golfing with her appealed too much. He loved the game, and he looked forward to teaching her.

“Positive. What about you?”
