“I do,” she said and came further into the room.

He hadn’t seen her before she’d left for Elle’s house, and he tried not to stare. She was wearing a floral print sundress that swished around her trim legs as she moved. The dress was more sweet than sexy, but it showed off her toned, graceful body to a tee.

“What’s it called?”

He’d almost forgotten what they’d been talking about until she pointed at the book. Instead of replying, he held it up so she could see the title.

“I’ve heard of that one. Looks good.”

So do you. “You’re welcome to borrow it after I’m done.”

“Thanks. I will.”

“How…”

“Did…”

“You first,” he said. Why am I so flustered around this woman?

“I was just going to ask if you and Molly had a good day.”

“We did. She always has fun at my parents’ house. They spoil her rotten.”

She smiled, which made him smile too.

“How was your visit with Elle and Jamie?”

“Great. It was so nice to see them and catch up.”

“Did you have any trouble finding their place?”

“No, thanks to your intelligent talking car.”

“Good.”

Now that the small talk was over, he wasn’t sure what to do. Then he saw her glance at his wine glass.

“I didn’t even think to offer you a glass of wine. Would you like some?”

“Oh, that’s okay. I can get it myself.”

Ignoring that, he headed for the kitchen, grateful for something to do. “Be right back.”

Once he was out of sight, he let out a breath. This is a bad idea. You shouldn’t have waited up. You should already be in bed. No good can come of this. Just bring her the wine and go to bed.

He took a wine glass from the cupboard and poured. When he returned to the living room, she was sitting on the couch with his book in her hands, reading the back cover.

“Here you go,” he said, holding out the glass.

“Thanks.” She set down his book and reached for the glass.

Their fingers brushed as she took it, and he felt a wave of heat ripple through him.

She took a deep drink. “Mmmm. So good.”

Now he was officially sweating. “Well. I should get to bed.”

“But you haven’t finished your wine,” she said, peering at him over the rim of her glass.
