Luckily, the resort was only a short distance away; otherwise, he might have given in to her incessant questioning. The minute he pulled into the driveway for the Naples Beach Resort and Golf Club, she stopped asking.
“It was one year ago today that we stayed here, remember?”
She nodded.
“It was also when we said we loved each other for the first time.”
“I remember.”
“Since it’s kind of like our anniversary and Molly’s with Victoria, I thought we could spend a romantic weekend together.”
Victoria and Trace had gotten married right before she’d given birth to their daughter, Emily. Molly had been thrilled to gain a sister and took any opportunity to be with her, sometimes forfeiting her time with him. He figured the novelty might wear off once Emily was old enough to steal Molly’s dolls and torment her as siblings love to do (case in point: he and Seb). For now, she was enamored with being the “big sister.”
“What a sweet idea, but please tell me you packed me some clothes,” she said, glancing down at her workout wear.
“Of course. They’re in the back.”
“Did you pack shoes too?”
“Yep.”
“My toiletries bag?”
“Yes.”
“How about a bathing suit?”
“Check.”
“Wow. I’m impressed.”
“I might have forgotten one thing, though.”
“What’s that.”
“Underwear,” he said and shot her a devilish smile.
“Why am I not surprised?”
After leaving his car with the valet, they went inside the resort and stopped at the front desk.
“May I help you?” asked the female clerk.
“Yes. I have a reservation for Dr. Bradshaw.”
She tapped on the computer. “I show you’re staying for two nights, checking out on Sunday.”
“Correct.”
After she took his credit card and handed him the room key, she said, “Enjoy your stay, Dr. and Mrs. Bradshaw.”
“We will. Thank you.”
He purposely avoided Chloe’s stare until they were alone in the elevator.
“Did you hear that? She assumed we were married.”
“Crazy, huh?” he said, fighting to maintain a neutral expression.
