She shuts her eyes tightly, drops her head, breathing in deeply. When she opens them, the disgust is gone, but she looks so sad. She shakes her head and sighs, pulling on one of my T-shirts, which swallows her.

“You’re beautiful.” I can’t speak any louder than a whisper without the chance of my voice cracking.

She jumps, turning toward me. She smiles and laughs. “As long as you can see it.”

“It’s all I see, Indy. You are it.” Her soft smile is devoured by my lips. I want to tell her I love her, but the last thing I want to do is scare her. I’ll wait. I need to know she is ready for that. I can’t lose her because I pushed too hard, too fast.

“Let’s go eat.”

“Did you cook breakfast?” she asks teasingly.

“You’ll find that I’m good at many things, sweet girl.”

She gives me her most stunning smile and says, “You haven’t let me down yet.” My heart stops. The whole world stops around me. “Are you okay?” Her voice snaps me out of whatever spell she had me under.

I bark a laugh. “You can’t say stuff like that unless you mean it.”

She stops abruptly, pulling me to look at her by my wrist. “I meant what I said.”

My breath hitches. Gripping her by the back of her head, I gently tug her into me at the top of the stairs, squeezing her into my chest, and pull away with a smirk. “I think you’re trying to kill me.”

She shakes her head with a chuckle as she takes the stairs down.

We spend the day together at my house. Usually, I don’t want people here. Protecting my space protects my peace, and very rarely do I allow people here for extended amounts of time like this. A few hours is as much as I can spare, at the most. But these are my people, and I’m happy to give them this access.

Mik even came over and watched movies with us. When he leaves, he takes our girl with him. Indy knows we both have work in the morning and has never once been one to come between our careers.

“Do you mind if I stay here?” Cam asks, his voice fading with the question.

“Anytime, but why don’t you want to go home?”

He makes a face, sighing heavily. “I want to deal with everything in a professional setting. My parents have been camping around my apartment. I don’t want anything to spiral out of control, because it almost did at the restaurant. She spoke so…disgustingly of Indy. My fist hit the table but…”

My gaze meets his as he trails off. Last night, I could see Angela’s repulsion in the way she looked at Indy.

We order dinner and eat while watching the hockey game. It’s nice to have someone who likes hockey around. Everyone loves football. And while football is fine, hockey is better.

Cam keeps side-eying me, and I wonder if he’s thinking the same things I am. Our relationship is changing, too, and this is new territory for me. Indy always says that there is room for more if you allow it. I think she’s right, but I can honestly say I never saw this coming. I never thought of myself as bi. I mean, I’ve never labeled myself one way or the other, really. But I never had anyone I cared for that was like him, either.

It’s the reason I was so pissed last night. Cam didn’t only hurt Indy. Finding him there was a gut punch to me, too. When he was apologizing, I could tell he was talking to me. He wasn’t just worried about losing Indy. The way his eyes bored into my soul, I could see he was scared. There was a fear of losing me too.

And again, this morning, he included me with them. That told me he was serious. He really does want this. Fuck, so do I. He’s got so much shit going on right now; he doesn’t need me to add to it. Plus, I need to know what Indy thinks about this, anyway. Does this change anything for her? For us?

I have a question

INDY: OK

Cam

INDY:

INDY: That’s not a question…

I don’t get another response right away. She’s going to make me say it. She’s not stupid. She knows exactly what I’m trying to ask her.

INDY: I know, Jay

INDY: It’s why you were so mad
