Quinn and Summer, our ‘best man’ and maid of honor, scoff and snicker.
“You know it’s not nerves,” Summer challenges.
Artur and I freeze. We look at each other and know without a doubt her assumption is most likely correct. We’ve never used protection—or even spoken about using it.
Maybe it was Artur’s plan all along to baby trap me. I smile at the silly thought.
The piano begins playing.
I poke his chest.
“Don’t you dare say a single word. We’ll discuss this after the wedding,” I demand.
“Of course, my angel. I’ll be waiting at the altar for you.”
He pecks my cheek and strides to the front of the party.
With all my friends and family—even my mother and brother sit in the pews—surrounding me, I march down the aisle with Lola tossing rose petals ahead of me.
She used her practice of throwing rice at Karey’s wedding to perfect her petal tossing. Unfettered joy overflows my heart and pulls my lips into a smile.
The only negative in a sea of happy faces is the man glaring at Summer. She told me he was her father’s best friend and that he was always angry when it came to her.
I thought Artur would forever look at me with the same fiery disdain, but fate can’t always be cruel.
Artur O’Brian survived being electrocuted thirteen years ago, broke free from Regina’s horrible lies, and loves Lola and me with all his might.
He's mine. My husband. My lover. My family. Mine.
We say our vows and kiss like we’ll die if even the smallest amount of space comes between us. The entire congregation cheers.
All except that one grumpy old man.
Summer fidgets and avoids his eyes. I’ll have to make sure she’s okay before Artur, Lola, and I leave for our family honeymoon.
Except, I get wrapped up in my happily ever after and forget to check on her until we land in another country the next morning. I’m the worst friend ever. I send her a text but she doesn’t respond.
Lola and Artur consume my days and nights.
I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love them and they love me. We’re a family.
Possibly a growing family.
Joy fills a future once cursed by misery and pain. I allow my fantastical heart to imagine the world because I already have it.
I have Artur O’Brian.
Forever.
