Of how much she enjoys me.

Maybe it’s more than excitement and passion she’s feeling, maybe it’s more than lust…

Maybe it’s something new that we’re creating.

Maybe it’s just meant for her and me.

Chapter Sixteen

Lilith

* * *

I can’t help the nervousness as Lucifer leads me down the vacant alley. His oxfords and my heeled boots click in the dark night. A fluttering of pleasure still lingers in my lower belly and yet…I’m still tense. I don’t know what he’s doing here.

Lucifer holds my hand firmly, leading me down the street.

Although I have to admit, I’m enjoying his devoted attention. I feel like I have his support and I don’t feel so alone in all this. A couple passes us and a man on a bike rides by in the opposite direction.

Snow slowly falls as the night darkens. I try to look up to see the moon, but the dark sky is hazy with the coming snow.

That’s when I realize I don’t even know what day it is. What once dictated everything about my life has faded into nothingness.

Nothing matters but him.

My heart beats lightly at the memory of Sabrina. I haven’t the faintest idea of where she is. At that thought, Lucifer squeezes my hand and offers my knuckles a kiss. It’s the tenderness he shows me that binds me to this madness.

Once we’re away from prying eyes and farther into the darkness, I see who we’re there for and my body stills at the sight across the street. Warren comes into sight. He wears jeans and a leather jacket with black boots that make large imprints into the snow. I watch him in the same way a snake looks at their prey before they’re about to strike.

That’s what he is to me, my fucking victim. He earned the title.

Looking down, I notice I’m dressed in all black again, blending into the night, and I wonder if Lucifer did that on purpose. I catch sight of my appearance as we pass a glass window and once again, I don’t recognize the girl staring back at me. Her makeup is intense, her bright blue eyes piercing into what is left of my soul.

Thinking about it for a moment, Lucifer answers for me, “I have your soul, and trust me, my little piece, it’s filled with nothing but goodness.”

A huff of a laugh escapes me. Goodness. What goodness have I done since he first touched me?

He keeps telling me I’m good, trying to convince me I'm not another demon walking among the earth despite the murders I keep committing and loving every second of it.

“It’s why I’m with you this time,” he says and I know he read my mind again.

“What do you mean?” I find myself replying, almost expecting the answer he gives me.

“You’ll see.”

The air is thick and dense as we continue to walk ahead, almost stalking Warren. He’s by himself, listening to his songs on his AirPods. I can hear his thoughts, and he’s worried about the cops finding Jake’s body, when all of a sudden, I see Murphy running toward him from one of the other alleys.

I squeeze Lucifer’s hand and he holds me back. Pulling me gently against a wall so we blend into the night.

Murphy’s running so fast that he trips and catches Warren’s attention.

Instantly, Warren spews, “You dipshit, are you fucked up? We don’t have time for this, I need you to be clearheaded.” The two of them stand across the street hidden by a dumpster, but I can hear them both so clearly. They don’t see us, just as others don’t look where they’re hidden.

Murphy stands, coming face-to-face with Warren. “Yeah, I know. You don’t think I know?”

Warren lays his hand out in front of him, almost in a surrendering gesture as he speaks, “Jake was murdered, what if—”

“Don’t you even say it. For fuck’s sake, don’t you even think it!”
