A minute ticks by and finally she agrees. “Yes.”
“Let us seal it then?” I offer, taking the now empty wine glass from her hand and leaning in the space between the two chairs. “With a kiss.”
Her brow arches and her gaze drops to my lips. She craves this, I can hear it in her thoughts, feel it stirring through her veins. Her conflict doesn’t take away her desire to kill them; it is human nature after all.
Her chest rises heavily, slowly, and I know she’s wondering if she should do it.
Do it, my little piece, and I will reward you immensely.
If only I could cast a spell to ensure she’ll take the deal. But one’s free will is their own in both hell and the earthly realm.
“Deal,” she replies and she doesn’t hesitate. She leans in, quickly capturing my lips. As if it’s something she’s always dreamed of doing.
I kiss her until I bring her back to life, knowing it won’t end here. Breathing in my magic, gifting her powers, and feeling a thrill of vengeance I haven’t felt in so long. I’ll claim every inch of her skin, making her mine, and then she’ll be with me forever and I won’t be alone anymore.
I’ll have my mate. I’ve waited centuries for her.
Chapter Nine
Lilith
* * *
I can still feel the heat of his kiss as the biting cold alerts me that I’m no longer in Lucifer’s den in hell. One moment I’m kissing him, the other…
Holy shit.
Blinking rapidly, I can’t believe what’s happened. One kiss, and I’m back here. Back in Salem. It’s as if I’ve imagined it all.
I stare down at my hands. I turn to look back, but he’s not there. I’m wearing black jeans, black sweater, and black boots, matching my black hair and black nails. I suppose Lucifer chose this look and I’m not hating it; it matches the rage in my heart for what they did to me. It’s cold as fuck as I wrap my arms around myself and watch my breath turn to fog in front of my face. I take a moment to figure out where the hell I am. The sight of the woods makes my heart race, making me relive my death all over again.
Holy fuck. The backwoods behind that hole-in-the-wall bar they played at.
My pulse beats hard in my ears.
What the fuck? Just like that. I’m right back where it happened.
Part of my body wants to run, part of me is frozen with fear. Is it even real?
“Do as you agreed,” his voice whispers in the back of my mind and suddenly, the shock, the fear dim. The anger seeps in.
As if he can control me.
But it’s not enough.
I look up through the thick trees at the sound of the crows before they fly off. My heart won’t stop and my throat goes tight, my stomach knots and I feel like I’m going to throw up. I can’t get over the sight of my death playing out before my eyes. Maybe that's the point of all this: I need to feel the anger in order to end them. To destroy them like they did me.
“Eye for an eye,” a voice whispers in the back of my mind.
Panic races through me for a moment and I try to calm down, bracing myself on the ground to discover my hands are hot, so fucking hot the heat melts the snow.
“You can do this,” he tells me and I nod, believing him.
Quickly, I stand up, staring at my hands and glancing between them and the dirt below. In a perfect hand print.
Before I can make sense of anything, male voices catch my attention in the distance.
Voices I know. A singer, a guitarist, and a drummer.
