I bucked and arched on his tongue and fingers.

The hand he had muffling my sounds slipped into my mouth, at some point during the bliss.

I didn't notice.

He didn't, either.

Not until he dug his fangs in deeper, taking a little more, and I suddenly closed my mouth.

Hard.

Salt and metal exploded on my tongue.

Another cry escaped me as my mental pack bond lit up like it had been plugged into an electric socket, and I came again.

"Fuck." King swore viciously, tearing his fangs from my thigh. The wound clotted immediately, the way it always did after he bit me.

"What?" I asked.

He sat up, his eyes wide and his chest heaving. His cock strained against the front of his sweats, and a thin streak of my blood rolled slowly from his lip, down toward his chin.

"What?" I repeated, propping myself up on my arms as realization slowly dawned on me.

There was a new link in my mental pack bond.

One that had appeared moments earlier.

When I'd tasted metal and salt.

As I bit his hand.

"Oh, fuck," I breathed, my eyes opening wider than King's as the reality of the situation finally sank in.

"What the hell just happened?" Mallory yelled from down the hallway, her voice bleary from sleep.

"Are you okay?" Paige demanded, through the pack's bond. She had early practice, so she wouldn't have been home.

I didn't respond to either of them.

Whatever I was in the moment, okay was the wrong word for it.

King and I were still staring at each other, our bare chests rising and falling quickly.

"Carmen, I swear, I didn't—" he began.

I cut him off. "I know."

He hadn't planned it.

King wasn't deceptive, or manipulative. If he was planning on letting me bite him, he would tell me.

We'd both been exhausted, and bleary, and we'd gotten lost in the moment. We were equally at fault.

If the blame belonged on anyone, it was me. I was the one who should've retained control. He was the vampire. When bloodlust hit, his control was supposed to vanish.

He had already stopped me from biting him while we were together, at least a dozen times.

This was just… a mistake.
