CHAPTER ONE

carmen

I shoved my forearm into the back of the massive man in a crimson jersey.

Unsurprisingly, he didn't budge.

"Move, asshole!" I shouted, knowing there was no point even before the words escaped around my mouthguard.

When Oliver King was in a rage like that, he didn't listen to a word I said. Not that he listened to me when he wasn't in a rage.

I skated to the side, trying to see past him.

He went too, constantly screening my view with his hulking form.

The clock was ticking down, and the score was 1-0. We were winning, barely.

If they scored, we'd tie and go into overtime. It wouldn't end well for us.

Their goalie was good.

I had recently been tackled by two train-sized male werewolves on skates, so I was in bad shape.

And there was the situation with King.

The pain in my skull and shoulder throbbed with the countdown.

The thick pads and heavy gear I had on were soaked with sweat, retaining every bit of heat that radiated from my supernaturally warm body.

The hockey game taking place on the ice in front of me was chaos.

Chaos that I was supposed to be keeping close tabs on.

Chaos that I should've been completely and utterly on top of.

Chaos that I couldn't fucking see, because of the mountain-sized man in front of me.

"Move!" I snarled the word as I shoved him again, barely keeping my shit together as anger pounded through my veins.

King stayed exactly where he was.

The 2 on his back was in direct opposition to the 1 on mine.

I was the goalie.

He was a defenseman.

We were the best in the league, according to anyone and everyone who mattered. Except when this happened.

This had cost us games.
