Because of that, the wolves and vampires had teamed up to build a university, a long time ago. Soulmate University. All unmated vamps and weres were required to attend, and take classes that glorified mate bonds and "prepared" us for them. Even if you graduated with your degree, you were considered a student until you actually took a mate.

The vamps and weres had put the university in the middle of Oregon, with a shitload of forested land for the wolves, when they made attendance mandatory.

The university had grown.

And grown.

And grown.

And grown.

And grown.

And grown.

And…

Well, you get it.

There were now more than fifty million werewolves and vampires at the university. It filled the entire state of Oregon, and had turned into the country's capital for every major sport and the majority of fine arts.

Most immortals even stayed after they sealed a mate bond. Mated immortals at the university were still required to attend classes as long as they stayed, because the government hoped it would encourage them to leave.

It didn't.

The university had just become our place.

Anyway.

"I know I'm playing with fire. I keep trying to put it out," I said halfheartedly.

It wasn't a secret that I'd never made a real effort to end things with King.

"You love the fire, Carmen." Paige said it kindly, and she was right.

I was addicted to the fire.

She knew it.

Mal knew it.

King definitely knew it.

I'd been fucking my enemy for five years, and I was absolutely, overwhelmingly obsessed with him.

CHAPTER THREE

King rang the doorbell a few minutes later.

He didn't look happy when I opened the door.

Not even a little.

Like me, he had showered and changed. He'd put on a pair of black joggers and a distressed, gray muscle tank. The wings added to the look. Big, dark, and leathery, they were tucked in loosely, but obviously impossible to miss.

Most vampires didn't fly very much, but their wings were still a part of them.
