I had no words for him, no lie to brighten his mood, if only temporarily.

“Colin is worth it,” Harland said, tone low. “I do not mind living here forever if it means Colin will live.”

Neither did I, but I also knew Colin would not flourish here forever. He needed to be free, and hell, we all deserved it, too. It was not our fault that Gretha fucked up so spectacularly. Yet, we were the ones who paid the price for her mistake. Why they were targeting Colin was a mystery though.

“Why are they going for Colin and not us?” I asked, ignoring the chat about freedom.

Alexander turned away from the window, leaning casually against it as he seemed to ponder my question. “I have wondered the same thing.”

Harland huffed out a laugh. “Seriously?” I faced him, seeing humor and sadness in his expression. “We cannot survive without Colin’s blood. Think about it, killing him is easier than killing us. That is why they target him. Had Jetty killed Colin, we would all starve to death.”

“You do not think we can survive on other blood than Colin’s?” Alexander asked. “We could before the blood vow.”

Harland sighed regretfully at that. “Yes, we could. But we also killed each human we fed from. The sacrifices were meant for us to feed from without killing them, and I doubt once we have been claimed another’s blood will suffice. That is the only reason I can think of as to why Colin is their target.”

I growled low at that. “They are cowards! Going after the weakest instead of fighting us instead. We are monsters because of their coven. The honorable thing would be to face us!”

Alexander chuckled, sounding exhausted. “We all know the witch coven was less than honorable. Remember how many innocent humans they fed us? How they picked their sacrifices before the blood vow had started. We might have been the ones who drained them dry of blood, but they had chosen them. They knew giving them to us would kill them.”

“There were so many,” Harland whispered.

Guilt swarmed me. We had no control back then, but still I remembered them. I would never forget how it felt to hold someone as they passed away in my arms, their hearts giving out because of blood loss.

“What about the others?” Alex asked, sounding alarmed. “Their sacrifices? What do you think?”

“Fuck!” I exclaimed, tossing Harland off my lap and onto the couch instead. “We need to warn them!”

“But how?!” Harland asked, looking mussed. “We have no way of contacting any of them.”

“We should ask Jetty.” We all turned to find Colin in the doorway, a blanket around his body. He was smiling softly and looked well fucked.

“Gods, you are one sexy man, my love,” I rasped, taking him in.

He just shook his head, joining us on the couch. “Jetty seems to know a lot, ask him. If you need to alert them, then we should probably do it as soon as Sienna is done warding the place.”

Alexander walked away from the window, joining us. “How much did you hear?”

“Just that you fear the other sacrifices could be in danger, too. Why? Was there something I wasn’t allowed to know?”

Grabbing Colin’s hand in mine, I assured him. “Nothing, my love. We will tell you everything, do not worry.”

He smiled at that, nodding. “I—” his stomach growled. “Am hungry,” he finished, making us laugh.

Harland leaned over, pecking a kiss to his cheek. “We will go downstairs and warm some food for you.”

The blanket slid off one of Colin’s shoulders, showing off his delicious skin. “Are you naked under there?!” I gasped, tugging at the blanket. It fell away, revealing his soft cock, just lying there, begging for me to touch it.

“Not now, Jacob,” Alexander scolded me.

I stuck my tongue out at him. “Maybe Colin would enjoy a little fun?”

Colin just chuckled. “Come here,” he said, grabbing my face. I was pulled into a filthy kiss and somehow, I ended up on his lap.

Harland snickered beside us. “Come, my love, let us find some food for Colin and leave these two to their fun.”

“I wanted some fun as well,” Alexander muttered, making me smile as I continued to kiss our human.

Before Alexander and Harland could leave, a knocking came from the door, ending our fun. Colin tugged his blanket back in place, hiding his body from view.
