She nodded fervently. “Ain’t no one better than me!”

“Okaaay,” I said, not knowing what the fuck to do with myself in her presence.

She continued to stare at me, huge blue eyes blinking ominously, like she was waiting for something. When all I did was stare back, she sighed and gestured behind me. “Am I allowed entry?”

Oh! “Of course!” I stepped aside, feeling like a dick as she marched past me, her brown dress swaying as she walked, her bare feet exposed just enough for her to move about without tripping herself in the garments.

“I never liked that couch,” she grumbled, pointing to the plush orange couch that took up most of the space in the living area.

I shrugged. “We can change it.”

She beamed. “I was hoping for that response! Now about those walls…” She waved one hand in the air and all the curtains flew to the sides, revealing gorgeous Victorian windows, all in a gothic style to match the vibe of the mansion. They were black and went almost from floor to ceiling. “That’s better,” she beamed. “Now that we have some natural light in here, you can see the walls better. Now.” She waved me closer. “See this wallpaper here? It’s disgusting. Like who wants flowers on the walls, right? Now we need something masculine. What about racecars?”

That finally broke my silence. “What?”

“Racecars,” she repeated, slower this time. Then with one snap of her fingers all walls transformed into a racetrack, several cars in mid motion. It even had an audience. The curtains had changed too, now a vibrant red to match the lead car.

“Absolutely not!” I objected. I truly hadn’t cared about how my rooms looked, but now I did. This would be the dream room for a six-year-old, not a grown ass man!

Sienna pouted, and with her big eyes it looked terrifying. “You don’t like cars?”

“I like 'em plenty,” I objected. “Just not on my walls.”

She nodded, biting her bottom lip which was a darker purple color. Another snap of her fingers and the walls changed into a forest green shade.

Exhaling in relief, I took in the much easier-on-the eyes walls. “This is perfect. Thank you.”

“We aren’t nowhere near done yet,” Sienna declared, rubbing her hands as she headed to one of the closed doors. So far, she was more terrifying than Jacob. If that was the case with all the vampires, my time here might not be too bad.

After going through all the rooms—and telling Sienna over and over again that, no, a racecar bed wasn’t what I meant when I said not on the walls!—she finally left me alone to take in my new home. I had to admit it felt like I was truly home now, and the fact Sienna cared enough to help me out had to mean I wasn’t about to get eaten. I hoped. It truly appeared as though I would live here for many years to come. She’d even snapped a tablet and computer into existence, telling me to order whatever I wanted for my wardrobe and other necessities. I had no spending limit and all would be delivered to the property gate with regular shipping.

I had so many fucking questions.

Instead of sitting down and having a mental breakdown—which I felt was exactly what I needed at that moment—I went into my bathroom, pleased that I now had a bathtub big enough to fit my bigger frame. I wasn’t overweight, exactly, but working as a farmer my entire life meant I had a healthy bulk on me, and with my height I needed something specially made for me. Sienna was all too pleased to help me out. I hadn't pointed out the little racecar bath toys she added before she left. I felt like this was something I could brush off. At least those could be hidden away easily.

My clothes now lay scattered on the floor as I eased myself into the tub. I sighed as the warm water soothed my tense body. I’d arrived here not knowing what my future held, and I’d been good at keeping my thoughts happy, not daring to think about anything that could cause me to panic. These monsters owned me. The whole sacrifice thing meant that I was given to them. I’d already figured they might need me to feed, them being vampires. But what else would they have me do? At first, I’d believed to be a sort of servant, cleaning and cooking for the monsters, but now I wasn’t so sure, not when Sienna could wield a broom like no other. They also didn’t need food, just blood, or at least that’s what I understood. Jacob had mentioned another brownie was the cook, but he’d made it sound like he would only be cooking for me…

Closing my eyes, I thought of other ways I could serve the vampires, but nothing other than feeding them came to mind. Perhaps I should just relax for the time being. Jacob told me I would meet all of them later, and I could ask what my purpose was then. I wasn’t comfortable having nothing to do with my time. Normally, I would wake up early and tend to the family farm, even after I'd moved out. I’d bought a house close to the farm, making it easy for me to help out each morning with the chores. Then I spent the rest of the day with Dad, tending to the animals and crops.

Would I be happy here? Would I get something to do each day? Or would I just be a walking blood bag for them to feast on, locked away in my rooms until they needed to feed?

A knock sounded on my bathroom door, startling my eyes open. “Colin,” Sienna’s calm tone spoke of no urgency as she spoke through the still closed door. “I have come to escort you to dinner.”

I huffed out a sigh, willing my heart to settle. It felt like I’d just gotten in the water, but once I stepped out and saw my wrinkled fingers, I figured time had escaped me as I’d spiraled a bit.

“Coming!” I replied, toweling off and eyeing my clothes on the floor. I still hadn’t grabbed my suitcase, meaning I would need to wear my clothes from before.

“Your suitcase is in your bedroom,” Sienna said, like she’d read my mind. “I will wait for you in the living room.”

I heard her footsteps retreat and then ventured out of the bathroom. Sure enough, my suitcase was placed on my bed, the four poster king bed was massive, making my suitcase appear tiny in comparison. Now that I knew I could order clothes here, I might buy some more before going to bed, simply because I only grabbed two sets of clothes. I needed the room for my personal items, like my favorite books, kindle, pictures, and other random stuff I felt should come with me.

Thankfully, I’d packed a button-down and my nicer jeans, all to make a good impression. It was what I chose to wear now, adding a little gel to tame my brown locks. It helped to show off my green eyes, which were my best asset, according to myself. I mostly wanted to appear well mannered and clean looking. Especially if they were going to feed from me. But I liked my scruff, so that would remain.

“About time!” Sienna grumbled once I entered the living room. She squinted her eyes at me, eyeing me from top to bottom before nodding her approval. I had no idea I’d needed it before then, slumping my shoulders in relief once she turned for the door. “Come now. The masters are waiting.”
