“He called to tell me he is contesting the divorce based on the unfair division of assets. He would like to meet and discuss the matter. I’ll schedule a meeting at your earliest convenience.”

“No.” I close my eyes. “You have the report from the investigator. You’ve assured me the terms in the prenup are clear. Yes?”

“Yes. I just think you might want to try talking this over with him.”

“There is nothing to talk over. Tell Davis, again, that I will not negotiate and sign the papers, or he can see us in court.” I know the last thing Davis wants is a messy public trial.

“Very well, young lady, but I really think you should reconsider—”

“I’m not a young lady,” I snap. “I’ve told you how I want to proceed. Now do your job, Clyde.” I hang up, tossing the phone to the side.

I feel like I really need a shower. Not only have I been on the road for two days, but I also need to calm down. The anger is still rushing through me as I undress and step into the big glass shower. I let the water wash over me. Getting out, I wrap my hair in a plush white towel before grabbing my white robe.

I’m walking toward the kitchen when I freeze.

Davis is sitting in one of my chairs. His blond hair is pushed to the side. He’s wearing a white polo shirt, his leg crossed over the other one.

“Welcome home, wife.” He gets up and starts toward me.

“You need to leave.” I try to show that I’m not scared of him. But something in his eyes makes my blood run cold.

“Is that any way to treat your husband after being away for three weeks?”

“Is fucking your secretary any way to treat your wife?” I fold my arms over my chest. I hate that I’m naked under my robe. “Is fucking anything with two legs and big tits any way to treat your wife?”

“You know it means nothing. I come home to you.”

“I don’t want you to come home to me. I don’t want you coming here at all. You need to sign the divorce papers and go on your way.”

“I told you I’ll sign them as soon as you agree to give me half your assets.”

“Have your lawyer read the prenup to you again. That is never going to happen.”

He moves so quickly, I don’t even have time to protect myself.

He grips my jaw in his hand, his fingertips pressing in so tight that I wince. “You are going to give me my share, even if you have to sign it over half dead.” He pushes my face away. “I’ve tried to be nice, but I’m over it now. Call your lawyer and tell him to tear up that fucking prenup or else.” He glares at me, and I can see his eyes are bloodshot. His pupils are so dilated that his blue eyes look almost black.

“No.”

“Now you’ve pissed me off.” I hold my breath as I stare him down.

Finally, he spins away and storms toward the elevator door. I don’t know if he’s going to stop me from trying to leave until he stabs the button. “You’ve made a big fucking mistake.” The door opens, and he steps inside.

“The biggest mistake I made,” I tell him as the door slowly starts to close, “was marrying your sorry ass.”

The moment he’s gone, I release the breath I was holding, then run to my bedroom and grab the phone. I see the missed call from the doorman and immediately call back.

“Taylor? This is Finley Westbook. I need my code changed on the elevator immediately.”

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

LINCOLN

“We’ve been here twelve fucking hours,” Martinez hisses from his spot in the front seat, binoculars to his eyes, “and not a single fucking movement.”

“They were tipped off again,” I say from the back seat. It was pretty clear when the sun came up that we were fucked. This is the third time this has happened—Johnson’s tip about the drop last Friday was false, too.

“There has to be a leak somewhere,” Johnson adds. “They aren’t that smart.”
