“What?”

“You are so nasty.”

“I am, so what you trynna do?”

“Get me home, and I’ll show you.”

He smirked and gave me a slow, lingering kiss that had my pussy thumping for attention.

Life with Porter will always be fun.

A few months later

“Let’s fuckin’ go, E!”

I slapped the back of his helmet as he jogged off the field after successfully sacking the quarterback of the Savanna White-Tails. The play gave us the ball in a great scoring position. We might get on down the field in two downs.

“You see me!” He grinned. He grabbed the sponsored sports drink and gulped it down before sitting on the bench and watching the offense

The score was 21 to 6. The White-Tails had only scored two field goals. They were getting their ass handed to them, and I loved every second. Even if I wasn’t on the field, I showed up for my team on the sidelines.

Since July, I went to every training camp, practice scrimmage, and conditioning during the pre-season. When the season started in September, I still wasn’t a hundred percent to get back on the field, but I showed up for every game to encourage and support my team. The medical staff assured me with the progress of my recovery, I should be able to get on the field before playoffs in January. It would be a little over ten months since the start of my recovery in February. Most people took over a year before they were ready, but God had been too good to me.

My palms itched to get back on the field, but I wouldn’t rush it as I wanted to at the start of my recovery when all I wanted was to play football and would die for the sport I loved. Now, with Meadow as my fiancée and our baby due in early December, I had two very important people to live for. I would show up when the time was right and put it all on the field.

The thought of Meadow and our unborn son made a smile stretch across my face. They were my sole purpose to breathe and live. They were what kept me going while the waiting period felt like it would take me out.

I couldn’t wait to hold my boy in my arms and watch him grow. I prayed he loved football as much as me, but I also knew how Dow felt about football. I vividly remembered one of our first deep conversations where she was adamant about informing her child of the dangers of football. Now we would have a son together in just a few months, and it’d be interesting seeing us navigate his life while he grew up and found his passions.

The game finished, and the Silverbacks won 28 to 9.

Like good sports, we shook hands with the opponents. One of them pussy-ass niggas had the nerve to mumble something under his breath when he passed me.

“Say that shit a little louder.”

He turned to face me with a mug on his face. “I said you ain’t did shit in almost a year. You shouldn’t be on the field at all, sorry-ass nigga.”

“Well, cry me a fuckin’ river, bitch. You worried about me when you need to lock in on your defense. Niggas couldn’t stop a puppy thinking you can line up with big dawgs.”

“You not doing shit on the defense either, pussy.”

“I’m doing more than yo’ whole d-line, fuck nigga.”

The player, who was so miniscule to the team that I didn’t know his name, swung on me. The team reacted first. Eddie, who never gave a damn about appearances, was the first to step in front of me.

“E, don’t do it. He’s not worth you getting fined or benched. We need a smooth journey to the playoffs. You’re a key component of our success. That bitch ain’t worth a damn.”

A few coaches came over to inspect the situation, but I offered a genuine smile. “Everything is all good. Ain’t that right, number 73?”

The man didn’t say another word as he stormed off toward their locker room. I chuckled. Envy and jealousy were something else. It made a lot of niggas angry to see another man living their dream and being 100 percent themselves without selling their soul. Even me breathing was disturbing some people’s peace.

“Silverbacks, keep your head in the game. We have too much to lose to let some nobodies get in our heads!” I shouted at my team as we made our way to the locker room.

“We need you on the field,” Lay Low commented.

“Soon, brother. Soon.”

Stepping into the house, all I wanted to do was wrap my hands around my fiancée and shower her with kisses. The away game had taken me away from her for four days. I hated every second we were apart. Her doctor said she was high-risk because of how huge our son was, and flying out of the state would not be a good idea.
