Fuck they thought this was fr. But seriously. You already got the ring?

Me:

I was gonna have you make some moves for me while I set up the rest of the shit.

Seddy:

heard.

I hearted the message and locked my phone. As I emerged from the car, I stared at the mall in front of me. I drove to Houston to shop for Meadow. She was out running errands, and I didn’t want to risk running into her while I bought the last of the things I needed to make her proposal special.

People always asked me why I didn’t have security with me when I was out in the city alone. The answer was simple. I was a brick wall and could knock a nigga out in one swing. I could handle my own in most situations because I had a license to carry in the state of Texas. I kept a strap on me and wouldn’t hesitate to let a nigga meet God. The only time I called up security was when it was a big event or Meadow was with me. Now that she was pregnant, I needed as much protection for her as possible. I didn’t let her go anywhere without making sure she had one or two of Noble’s guys with her. The thought crossed my mind to check on her.

With quick movements, I pulled out my phone again and started the FaceTime call. She answered almost instantly.

“Hey, baby.”

“Hi, my love. You good?”

“Yep! I’m getting my steps in. I handled the business stuff and checked on Miss Nette. She prayed over me and made me cry. You know how that goes.”

“Sure do.”

Over the last few weeks, everything and anything made Meadow tear up. It was almost OD how she would burst into tears and get mad at me for not crying too. It was a mess. All I could do was hug her, kiss her, and rub her belly.

“Now me, Evie, and Essie are out baby shopping.”

“Don’t do too much lifting.”

“Of course not. Where are you?”

“The mall.”

“What are you getting?”

“Stuff for you and my son.”

“Love that for me!”

“Nah, but I wanted to make sure the bodyguard is with y’all.”

“Yeah. This big, buff, bald Black man in all black been following us around. He doesn’t know it yet, but he’s about to be carrying these bags when I’m done.”

“Bae, don’t make that man's job harder than what it already is, because I know you and yo’ sisters walking around like easy licks.”

She had the nerve to giggle as Essence chimed in. “Hush up, Porter! We’re not that bad.”

“Did you know there was a second bodyguard following y’all?”

All three of them went silent. I watched with amusement as Dow looked around to find the man in question.

“No, there’s not,” Dow replied.

“Yes, there is. Hold on. I’m finna tell him to wave at you.”

I swiped over to the message thread and texted the second guard. When I came back to the FaceTime screen, all three of them hooted and hollered when the second man revealed himself. I chuckled.

“Exactly. Good as got, ain’t it?”
