“Gaah! It’s so cold.”

“This is what you love, ain’t it?”

I pouted. “Yeah, from the comfort of a warm home.”

“We can get the snowman built first. Then go back inside for some hot chocolate and a nightcap.”

“I love that plan.”

We started with a handful of snow and moved around the backyard until there was a decent sized base to our snowman. My face burned from the cold air. My nose ran. My lashes frosted.

An idea crossed my mind. Instead of adding to the large ball of snow Porter worked on, I made several small snowballs and hid behind a tree. I tossed the first ball, and it hit Porter in the back of the head.

“What the . . .”

Porter’s head whirled around, and when his eyes landed on me, he smirked.

“This ain’t what you want, Dow.”

“Bring it on, big man.”

I threw two more snowballs at him as he stalked toward me.

“Nah. Don’t run.”

His movements picked up pace as he was in a quick stroll. I tossed the last two balls in my possession and bolted toward the door. Before I could pull the door open, Porter grabbed me by the waist and pulled me into his chest.

“Ahh!”

I yelped as Porter lifted my feet off the ground. Within seconds, the world around me spun. My back hit the soft snow, and he pinned me in place. Even with several layers of winter clothes, my body shivered under his intense gaze.

“Get off me.”

“Nope. You started a war.”

“I’ll finish it too.”

I tried to grab some snow to distract him, but he pinned my arms tightly in his grip.

“Finish it then.”

His lips pressed against mine, and the heat could have melted all the snow. We made out before we took it inside, where he fucked me up against the wall, on the couch, and on the staircase. Then we showered and lay in bed until sleep greeted us.

A few days later

“Oh, no . . .”

As soon as I climbed into the back seat of the all-black SUV, my phone blew up with texts, comments, and DMs from all my social media accounts. I took a deep breath and opened the family group chat first. If I needed any answers, it would be there.
