“No. The time to be calm was before y’all broke several laws to come in here and ask for autographs like desperate groupie bitches. His well-being is top priority, and you snuck in here without the proper clearance to do so. I’m gon’ handle both of y’all, for real.”

The door opened, and another familiar voice entered the conversation.

“What’s going on here?” Seddrick questioned. He looked between the three women in the room, and his gaze settled on mine. He was another protective person who didn’t play about me. He handpicked the staff who would work on my floor, and I could tell from his down-turned eyebrows he was confused by the two unknown women in the room as well.

Meadow walked over to my side, adjusted the blanket over my body, and offered me a gentle smile before she responded. “What happened to security?”

“They are switching shifts,” he answered.

Meadow nodded. “When they get situated, get security up here. These two bird-brain-ass hoes—pardon my language—thought it was a good idea to ask Platinum for autographs like he’s not a human being who deserves privacy after a major surgery.”

Seddrick eyed the women who looked visibly shaken. “Yeah, it’s wraps for y’all. C’mon.”

“B-but—”

“W-we didn’t—”

“Nah. Save it for the board. Dumbass hoes finna lose they job. There’s a time and place for everything, and y’all moved sneakily.” Meadow shook her head with disgust as Seddrick slid the door open for the nurses to walk out. The last thing I heard before they disappeared was Seddrick requesting security to the floor we were on and to have the women escorted to the authorities.

Now Meadow and I were alone. I took in her appearance. She wore scrubs that did little to hide her curves, with her curly hair pulled into a puff of curls atop her head, and shiny lip gloss covered her juicy ass lips. Every day, no matter what she wore, she piqued my interest.

“You look sexy as fuck when you’re threatening people.” I’d blame the medications if anyone asked why I blurted out the compliment, despite remaining silent through everything else.

“I wasn’t threatening anyone. If anything, I was making a promise. I don’t play about your safety and well-being. You need to drink some water. Your throat sounds dry.”

She grabbed a small clear cup and poured ice water from the blue pitcher on the bedside table. She grabbed a bendy straw and lifted the cup up to my lips. I wrapped my lips around the straw and guzzled the water down like plants in a drought. I cleared my throat and allowed my body to adjust to the rehydration.

“Man, that’s the best water I’ve ever had in my life. I love water. I can’t believe it’s niggas out here not drinking water daily. Dehydrated-ass mothafuckas.” I rambled as I adjusted in the bed.

Meadow laughed softly. The sound was my favorite song. “You’re still coming off your surgery high. You probably do not know what you’re saying right now.”

“I know exactly what I’m saying. I told you when I first met you that you were fine as hell. That hasn’t changed. Hearing cuss words flow so effortlessly from your mouth enhanced your sexiness to me. The way them bitches and hoes slid off your tongue turned me on. I can’t even lie.”

“Boy, drink some more water.” She refilled my cup and held the straw back up to my lips.

I smirked but drank the water anyway. Once I was done, she set the cup on the table and took a seat in the reclining chair beside me.

“So, when can I leave?”

“The doctor should be in within the next hour. Typically, you can be out of here by this afternoon, but that’s if there were no complications and you’re not in too much pain. The anesthesia should wear off soon to gauge your pain levels.”

“Damn. I ain’t gon’ lie . . . I don’t want these meds to wear off. I feel good as fuck right now.”

“I bet you do.”

“Nah, but seriously, thank you for handling those women earlier. I appreciate you looking out for me. What I would have said would have really made me public enemy number one.”

“Always. I hate when people in the medical field move sneaky. Now they’re about to be out of a job because they cared more about autographs than the oath they took as nurses. Fuck them bitches.”

I licked my lips and nodded. “Right. Fuck ’em. Speaking of fucking . . . Can I ask you a question?”

“Lord . . . What’s up?”

“When’s the last time you got put through a mattress?”

“Excuse me?”

“What?”
