She bit her lip.
“Stop thinking.” Evan met her gaze. “Would you remove your nails from my flesh?”
“Sorry,” Felicity said, noting he did not stop moving.
Closing her eyes, she let out a breath, doing her best to relax as he’d told her earlier. However, relaxing was the last thing she could do. Each movement made her senses leap to awareness. When his mouth closed over hers and his thumb circled the tip of her right breast, relaxing was the last thing she could do.
“More!” Felicity called out. “Oh yes.” She never wanted him to stop, never. Evan was drenched in sweat, both of them slick with perspiration, and still Felicity did not want to ever stop. Something was cresting, and she would find out what it was.
“Bloody hell!” Evan called out between ragged breaths. He slid his hand between them and touched a part of her sex that sent her flying. Her body arched and she cried out.
“Oh God!”
What Evan did after she was not sure as she was somewhere in the sky, stars circling in her eyes, and then she began to float down just as he collapsed over her with a loud, throaty growl.
Evan fought to catch his breath. “You are to be the death of me. I have never gone this long before.”
“Mm mm.” Felicity was not about to leave the perfect place of her body humming with delight and the delicious inability to breathe properly.
“Are you awake?” he asked, looming over her. “Felicity, did I hurt you?”
Frustrated that he would wish for her to return to the boring earthly realm, she opened her eyes. “What?”
“Did I hurt you?” he repeated.
“You said I was going to kill you. It seems you are the one who is hurt.” She lifted to her side and peered down his body. His sex was broken. It had deflated and now rested on his thigh.
“Oh no!” she exclaimed, and patted it cautiously. “Are you hurt?”
Evan began laughing and did not stop until tears rolled down his cheeks.
Chapter Fourteen
Three days later, they attended breakfast at the Macleod’s. Mrs. Macleod insisted on having them, as well as several of their closest family friends, to celebrate their wedding.
It was obvious that Lilian Macleod feared the rumors and hoped that by people seeing them, they’d be reassured the speedy wedding was more to keep the anxious couple from each other prior to the wedding and not because they’d already been together.
Besides her parents, Felicity recognized Lord and Lady Ross, Mrs. Middleton, and her husband. The Campbells, Henry’s parents, were also in attendance.
They were greeted at the door by an austere butler whose face softened at seeing Evan. They walked into a cloud of floral scents that mingled with the aroma of food and tea.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Macleod rushed to greet them. Her new mother-in-law threaded her arm through Felicity’s. “You must come and greet our guests.” She gave her a secretive smile. “How do you feel today?”
“Wonderful,” Felicity exclaimed with so much enthusiasm that both Evan and his father cleared their throats.
In the sitting room, those in attendance looked at her with unveiled curiosity and Felicity held back the urge to stick her tongue out. Instead, she allowed the marital bliss to shine, and she smiled widely.
She went from person to person to accept congratulatory greetings, her face beginning to hurt from smiling. Most were sincere, but it was obvious that both Mrs. Middleton and Lady Ross were not as much, their gazes moving ever so slowly to her stomach region.
Just then her mother and father arrived. She hurried over to hug them, as she’d not seen them since the wedding day.
“I so missed you, Mother,” she said, kissing her matriarch’s cheek. “I have so much to tell you.”
“I am sure there will be a time, dear. Right now, we must ensure everyone here realizes you and Evan had a proper courtship.”
They had not had a courtship at all that Felicity could recall. She gave her mother a quizzical look. “I do not think we did.”
Her mother took her by the arm and pulled her to a far corner of the room. “What I mean to say is that you and he must ensure everyone is aware you were infatuated with one another but were not intimate prior to your wedding night.”
