Marcus started filming again with the camera pointed at the ground.
“Chill out,“ Garrett said. “We won’t use the clip in the documentary. You have my word.”
“I don’t give a shit,” Draven said. You’ve got me on camera assaulting somebody with a deadly weapon. I’d rather not have that floating around out there.”
“Totally understandable.” Garrett looked at Marcus. “Delete the clip.”
After a hesitation, Marcus said, “Yeah. Okay.”
“I want to see,” Draven said.
Marcus fiddled with the camera, then stopped recording.
The next clip picked up as the trio walked back to camp.
“That was some crazy shit,” Peyton said.
“I thought Draven was going to shoot those guys," Garrett said. “I thought he was going to kill us for a second there," he said with a chuckle. "This documentary is going to be awesome. We’ve got some great footage.”
"You really think we'll catch any footage of the spirit?” Peyton asked.
Garrett shared a look with Marcus. "All we need is some kind of anomaly on camera. Some kind of ghostly heat signature on the thermal images.”
Peyton gave him a curious look. "You guys want to cheat this?”
"No. I don't want to. But if we don't have a ghost, we don't have a story. But let’s see how this all plays out. Then we’ll figure something out.”
"What do you have in mind?” she asked.
Garrett smiled and put a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry. I've got that all figured out."
"I bet you do," Trevor said, stepping out of the shadows, blocking the path back to camp.
With a tight face, Peyton asked, "What are you doing here!?"
"The question is, what are you really doing here?”
"It's none of your damn business.”
"Looks like you two are getting along great," Trevor said.
Peyton decided to throw fuel on the fire. She put her arm around Garrett. "Yes, we are. And there's nothing you can do about it. We’re broken up. Remember." She kissed Garrett on the cheek.
That was enough to send Trevor over the top. From his waistband, he pulled a pistol and took aim.
Peyton gasped.
"There's no need for this," Garrett said.
"The fuck there isn't," Trevor replied. "How long have you been fucking her?”
Trevor's eyes misted with tearful rage. His face contorted with sorrow. This was a man on the edge. An edge he was about to slip over.
"Hey, look," Marcus said. "There's nothing going on between them. I've been here the whole time. We’re just trying to make a movie. That's all.”
Trevor took aim at Marcus. "You’re probably fucking her, too.”
