A new DM posted to my Instagram account. Another handle I didn’t recognize.

@meant_for_you: See you soon, Harper. Very. Very. Soon.

I turned the screen to Archer as he came back to bed.

He released a slew of curses as he read.

Hours later, Archer and I lay curled on the sofa, which we’d turned to face the sliding doors. Curtains open, we watched the water for approaching boats and the land for creepy stalkers.

Nash confirmed a vessel had been stolen from the marina before dawn, then abandoned in the harbor not long after our call. Webb was getting braver, bolder, and exceptionally worse by the day.

Archer curved his body against my back, pressing kisses to my hair, neck, and shoulders.

I pulled his arms tighter around my chest. “I like being the little spoon.”

A puff of air tousled my hair as Archer suppressed a laugh.

“That might be your only choice in this relationship.”

I wiggled, then rolled in his embrace until our torsos were aligned. “In this what?”

His eyes widened, then narrowed, and he gathered me tighter against him. “Relationship.”

I bit my lip, fighting a smile, delight washing through me. “Do you mean the relationship between a client and her incredibly unprofessional security detail, or—”

Archer growled and ducked his head against the curve of my neck, kissing and suckling the sensitive skin below my ear.

I squealed and laughed.

Then he kissed me, long and slow, until I was putty in his arms once more.

Far too soon, he rolled me on top of him, and I set my head on his chest. Our attention returned to the water.

“Webb’s not going to stop,” I said.

“He is,” Archer said. “Because we’re going to stop him.”

Chapter 27

Harper

Exhaustion hit around noon. The adrenaline that had carried me through the night and morning finally crashed, leaving my limbs heavy and my eyes burning with fatigue.

Archer insisted I try to sleep. I made it an hour before nightmares of watching eyes jerked me awake once more.

I found Archer sitting on the back deck, dressed in his usual dark cargo pants and t-shirt— long-sleeved this time. He pressed his phone to his ear, face grim.

He motioned me closer, then pulled me onto his lap as he said his goodbyes.

“What’s wrong?” I asked when he lowered the device to the table.

“Colton found something. He’s calling back in five with the full team.”

My stomach dropped. “What kind of something?”

“A storage unit in Nashville. It’s been paid for through the end of the year, and the contract is under Webb’s name.”

A jolt of enthusiasm hit, but Archer’s expression remained grim.
