“Purdy will, once she sees me back in my tux. And I’ve been in front of the camera plenty of times.” He snickered. “Just not in any movies I’d want my brother seeing.”

I shook my head, mentally giving up. He was insistent on calling her Purdy. My stomach turned. I hoped he was just trying to irritate me, and there weren’t videos of him and her anywhere.

“Anyway, we’ll see. I’m going to stop by the house and grab the wedding dress before I go drop the dogs off at Ma’s.”

We were sitting outside early that morning. I drank from my thermos as we watched the fog seep through the trees and the dogs running around the yard, getting their exercise in. Sawyer’s lackey—Juliet—came out, a coffee mug in her hands.

“Morning, what are we talking about?”

“Just having a smoke before going into town. Our mom is taking the dogs while we film. If they’re running around here, it’ll mess up continuity,” Sawyer explained.

“We’re also discussing cast changes. I think I should play the lead,” I added, despite Sawyer’s scowling face.

“Oh?” She sipped her drink and looked at me curiously. “Are you an actor?”

“I think I can figure it out. Andi isn’t going to do it if Sawyer is the husband.”

“Well, then we recast her,” Juliet said matter-of-factly. “Let’s ask Lux if she wants to play the bride. Or I can do it. If that’s the case, she can take her ass home.” She rolled her eyes.

Ah, so that was her goal. She wanted Andi to leave, so she could take her place.

That wasn’t happening. Not after last night.

When we’d walked back to the house, I’d tossed and turned all night, thinking about our moment in the woods. It was so brief, but it was special. I wasn’t about to just walk away from that.

“Or—” I narrowed my gaze at her. “We can try and see how she and I do. Let’s do some table reads, chemistry tests, whatever. Andi is just as important to this project as Sawyer and I.”

“Are you important?” She cocked her head and slid her arm through Sawyer’s. “Because I thought we were just renting your property to film.”

Sawyer stepped out of her grasp. “Juliet, cool it, will ya? Yes, he’s important. We’ve been talking about making a movie since we were kids. I’ll talk to Purdy today. She and I will go through the script together. If she doesn’t want to do it with me playing Ethan, then Ash will do it. We look enough alike, my vision for the film will work with him in my place.”

I held back an eye roll.

“You laugh, but I have a plan, and you better not fuck with it,” he warned.

“What’s the plan?” Juliet asked.

I snickered and reached for my thermos. “He’s telling me not to fuck his ex-fiancée.”

Her eyes widened and cheeks flushed, which satisfied me enough to stop arguing with her. She had no idea he was still interested in Andi. Although I didn’t see how. He’d been making it pretty obvious.

“What? Sawyer?”

I slapped my brother’s back hard and took my coffee back inside. Leaving the sound of their arguing on the front porch, I left my thermos in the kitchen and went upstairs to see if Andi was awake yet.

As I passed everyone’s doors again, I noticed the room on the other side of mine was vacant. Turning the handle, I pushed the door open and peered inside. Sawyer had put all the production equipment in here. On one wall, there were a dozen TV screens and a large desk underneath. There were a bunch of computer monitors and cameras and stands we’d be using for filming. None of the computers were plugged in yet, which I thought odd, but considering money was tight, it made sense not to be using so much electricity when it wasn’t needed yet.

Spotting chairs in the clutter, I assumed this would be where Sawyer, Gavin, and Mick would be doing edits and watch-backs and things. All stuff I had little interest in helping with—I wasn’t being paid enough. I closed the door and continued down to Andi’s room.

I knocked, but she didn’t come to the door right away.

“Andi? You awake?”

She opened it a moment later.

“Sorry, I had to wash my underwear and socks in the bathroom. What’s up?”

I opened my mouth to speak and then paused. “Wait, what?”
