Prologue
TESS
Darkness. The smell of old paper and industrial lemon cleaner. My professor’s mouth is on mine, demanding and hot. I melt into the sensation, spine pressing against the rough metal shelving behind me.
His lips trail down my jaw, finding the sensitive spot on my neck where my pulse hammers erratically. He licks a stripe over my skin, sending a jolt of electricity straight to my core.
“Bite me,” I whisper, tilting my head to give him better access. “Please, Marcus. Mark me.”
He stiffens. The heat vanishes, replaced by a rigid tension. He pulls back just enough to look at me, his face obscured by the dim light filtering through the door slats.
“Tess, we talked about this.” His tone is curt. “You’re rushing things again.”
“I know, I’m sorry.” I reach up to cup his cheek. “I just… I need you. I need to know I’m yours.”
He sighs, the sound weary in the cramped space. “I have a career to think about. If someone sees a mark on you, they’ll start asking questions. You know the rules.”
“I know. I’m sorry. Please, don’t be mad.” I lean in, trying to recapture the mood, trying to soothe the frustration rolling off him. “I’ll be good. I promise.”
He glances at his wristwatch. “I’m almost late for class anyway.”
“Please.” I’m desperate to keep him here, desperate to feel that connection before he disappears back into his polished, public life. My hand slides down his chest, over the button-down shirt he always wears, until I palm him through his dress pants.
He groans, head falling back against the shelves. “You’re a needy little Omega, aren’t you?”
“Only for you.” I step closer, eliminating the space between us. “It’s been days since you made me come. I’m aching for you.”
“You barely survived my knot last time, baby.”
“I can take it. I just… I need you.”
He looks down, anger rushing out of his eyes. He kisses me, a hard, crushing press of lips that steals my breath.
“Fine.” The word is against my mouth. “But I’ll fuck you later. Right now, I’ll get you off. ’Cause you’re my girl. Aren’t you, Tess?”
I nod frantically. “Yes.”
His hand pushes my skirt higher, bunching the fabric around my waist. The air is cool on my thighs, but his touch burns. His fingers trace the edge of my panties, teasing, before he presses the pad of his thumb directly over the damp fabric.
I gasp, hips bucking involuntarily. It doesn’t take much. I’ve been on edge for days, living for these stolen moments in his office or the library stacks. With just a few strokes of his thumb, circling and pressing, I’m undone.
I bite my lip to keep from crying out as pleasure crashes over me, wave after wave. My knees buckle, but he holds me up with an arm around my waist.
When I finally open my eyes, he’s smiling.
“Good girl.” He kisses my forehead. “I love you, you know that?”
“I love you too.”
“I just want to protect us. What’s happening between us is special. I don’t want any nosy people getting into our business and ruining it. Ruining us. You’re too important to me.”
Warmth licks my belly at his confession. “I know. You’re important to me too.”
He brushes my lip with his thumb, and I feel the effect all the way to my toes. I trace his belt and smile up at him. “You didn’t get to come.”
“We don’t have the time, Tess.” His thumb pulls at my lower lip before sliding onto my tongue. I let him thrust it deeper into my mouth. “You can meet me after class. We can go to my place.”
“Yes, Professor.” The title slips out as a tease, a reminder of the forbidden nature of what we share.
