“Then it’s a deal,” he said, coming to a halt at his bedroom door. “And when I make it through the week, you have to listen to all the reasons that marriage would work for us.”

Rona rolled her eyes. “Just make it through a week, Bain,” she said. “Then we’ll see.”

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX

Bain had one goal, and one goal only—get inside Rona before she changed her mind again.

To achieve this goal, speed was of the essence. Which meant flair went out the window. He tossed Rona onto the bed, and climbed on beside her.

He had a plan.

Kiss her senseless, so she’d shut up about stupid stuff. Strip her fast. And get inside her right after that. To be fair, it was a simple plan. But considering he’d already tried to make this happen twice before, he figured keeping it simple was the best idea.

“Shouldn’t we get undressed first?” Rona said, grinning up at him.

He wasn’t fooled. There was vulnerability in her eyes. Rona didn’t believe he’d stick with her. But Bain was committed. And when he set his mind to something, he was unmovable. Rona Dalgliesh was the woman for him.

“Don’t worry,” he said. “I’ll get you undressed.”

Then before she could make the whole thing more complicated, he covered her mouth with his. Nothing tasted better than Rona. Nothing felt better than her lips against his.

Nothing.

As he kissed her, he kicked off his boots and unbuttoned his jeans. Fast, he had to be fast, or she’d have time to think. Breaking their kiss, he quickly got off the bed and shirked his clothes.

“I wanna see,” Rona complained. “Strip slower.”

“No way in hell,” Bain said. “I know what happens when you have time to think. I can’t live through that again.”

He knelt at her feet on the bed, pulled off her boots and tossed them over his shoulders. Rona laughed when they smacked against the wall.

Bain frowned with concentrations as he unfastened her jeans. He slid his hands under the waist, and pulled them down—taking her lacy pink panties with them. Time enough to enjoy her lingerie later, he reminded himself.

“You’re going too fast,” she complained.

“You’re talking too much,” Bain corrected.

And talking meant thinking. There was no time to delight in the pleasure of seeing her naked from the waist down. He was a man on a mission. Grabbing her hands, he hauled her into a sitting position before getting rid of her jumper, t-shirt, and bra.

He was aware that he was undressing her with all the finesse of a black bear trying to get into a picnic basket, but he’d just have to impress her with his skills later.

At last, her clothes were gone, and he had her naked before him. The sight made his brain stall. For the first time since his teens, he was stunned stupid by a woman. Years of experience went out the window. He had no suave moves to make, no charming quips to offer. All he could do was gape in wonder. Because he had Rona in front of him.

Naked Rona.

With a wicked, knowing smile, she lay back on the bed and stared up at him. She was a feast for a starving man. The palest skin, pink ripe nipples, and decadent orange curls. And her curves…

A man could die from the sight.

“I thought you were in a hurry,” the demon drawled.

The woman was temptation itself.

She held up a hand. There was a condom in it. Bain frowned, wondering when she’d picked it up.

“Want me to put it on you?” she asked seductively.

Only brutal common sense stopped him from letting her do whatever she liked to him. “I don’t know. Do you know what you’re doing?”
