Brody
Happy for you, buddy. Sounds like a good solution to a fucked-up problem.
Cutler
Agreed. And set up the meeting with her as soon as you sign the contract, and I’ll get things going right away.
Phoenix
When will we know if it’s the real deal?
She says she’s having the contract sent over to me by the end of day. I already talked to River and he’s going to look it over tonight.
Cutler
All right. Keep us posted.
Brody
We’ll celebrate as soon as we know it’s happening.
Cannon
Will your hot business partner be joining us for cocktails when we celebrate?
I think going to the PBR World Finals missing a pair of balls would make riding a bull very difficult.
Cannon

I slipped my phone into my back pocket and stepped outside, just as Briar ended her call.
She glanced up at me. “The team is working on the contract as we speak. You’ll have it in an hour.”
“Let’s see if you can pull this off, Magpie.”
“Consider it done.” She peeked up at me as we started walking side by side down the path toward the sidewalk before we both came to a stop, as she was apparently going the other direction.
“I’ll believe it when I see it.”
“Great. I’m starting to really enjoy proving you wrong, McGrumpy.” She smiled up at me.
“I guess time will tell.” I shrugged as she turned on her heels and started walking.
And I just stood there watching her for longer than I should have.
Because I couldn’t agree more.
Briar Sinclair proving me wrong just might be my new favorite thing.

. . .

Bass had signed the contract, and I’d closed the deal for the new location less than twenty-four hours later. Doing business in a small town was so different from doing business in the city. Things had moved fast. The owners had been anxious to sell the property, and the minute we made the offer, they accepted within the hour.
