“It does sound a whole lot better now,” I admitted. “I can’t believe you’re going to come with me.”

His gaze softened as he ran the tips of his fingers along my cheekbone. “I know we joke about how we’re going to end up hating one another, but in all seriousness, when you leave here, if you need me—I’ll be there for you. I want you to know that.”

He was showing up for me now and offering to show up for me later.

This was not what I’d expected.

I’d known this man for a couple of months, and it felt like I’d known him my entire life.

Bass Bennett was supposed to be a temporary distraction.

He was never supposed to be forever.

But things were shifting between us—and I liked it.

It was also terrifying at the same time. Depending on someone. Needing him.

The thought of being let down, or hurt—it was always there in the back of my mind.

I was allowing myself to be vulnerable with this man, a little bit more each day.

I wanted this. I wanted him. For however long I could keep him.

“I’ll show up for you, too,” I whispered.

“Looks like it’s time to celebrate,” he said as he nipped at my ear. He tugged the sheet away and kissed his way down my body, starting with my jaw before moving on to my neck.

His lips traced along my breasts, and I arched toward him with a groan.

He continued his way down my body, leaving a trail of goose bumps in his path, his lips moving like butter down my body. My legs fell apart for him instantly.

His hands gripped my hips as he tugged me closer and buried his head between my thighs, which had become my new favorite way to start the day.

He licked and sucked and teased me relentlessly as I rocked against him, shamelessly chasing my pleasure.

His tongue slipped inside, and I nearly arched off the bed as my hands gripped his hair, tugging him closer.

Needing more.

Wanting more.

“Bass,” I whispered.

His fingers moved to my clit, barely touching me as I bucked wildly against him.

And he stayed right there, pulling back before taking me to the edge, over and over.

The feel of his lips and mouth on me—it was overwhelming, yet I only wanted more.

His tongue worked me over relentlessly.

My vision blurred, and my head spun.

A moan escaped his mouth and vibrated against me, which was all it took.

My body shook and my hands fisted in his hair as I went over the edge, into absolute oblivion.

And he just stayed right there.
