Another sigh.

“My friend tends to act first and think much, much later. So I… I apologize.”

Silence stretches between us.

“You apologize?”

What the hell.

“I’d like to fix this,” he adds, and an unhinged laugh escapes me before I can stop it.

“You think an apology fixes kidnapping?”

“No.” Another pause. “But taking you home might.”

Home.

The word hits me like a punch.

“I can drive you there,” he continues quietly. “And preferably we all pretend tonight never happened.”

Home.

“I…” The reply dies halfway out of my mouth.

Home.

Except… Home isn’t mine anymore.

It’s Daniel’s house.

Daniel’s couch. Daniel’s side of the bed. Daniel’s coffee mug still sitting beside the sink because he never puts it away.

My clothes in his closet. My toothbrush beside his.

The engagement photos hanging in the hallway. Memories after memories of what I thought it would be my… forever.

Fuck.

Anger pulses inside me again, and tears fill my eyes.

Had he looked at those pictures before he kissed my cousin?

Had he brought her there?

Did he fuck her in our home? In our bed?

The air catches somewhere behind my ribs.

No.

No, no…

I can’t go back there.

But where the hell am I supposed to go?

A hotel? I don’t even know where my purse is.
