Only a few minutes passed before my fingers tightened against his skin, and I cried out for more. “Faster. I need more.”

Rowan quickened his movements, sliding in and out of me at a faster pace. He grew large inside me, and I held on tight against him. The second orgasm came with more warning as my body squeezed onto him.

I cried out and dug my fingers into him as the sensations tore through me. Rowan’s movements became jerky as hot flashes of his seed filled me against his moan.

He slowed, and my breath came heavily as he leaned his forehead against mine, still inside me, and smiled. “It’s going to be like that every time.”

ROWAN

My phone buzzed with the tip a few minutes after sunrise. Maisey had her head tucked against my chest as she snored. I reached over her to grab my phone off the stand, doing my best not to bother her, but she still woke up enough to see me read the text from my connection in Montana.

“Is something wrong?” she asked as she rubbed sleep out of her eyes.

I shook my head, refusing to get wrapped up in her beauty in the early morning. We had a job to do today: get Charlie back. “Just a tip about Jonathan’s truck.”

A teenage employee at the gas station on the north side of town recognized the old beater from the security photo I had sent around town. My connection, Ashland, had followed the lead and sent me coordinates to a farm on the edge of town. I showed Maisey the map.

“That’s the old Miller farm. It’s abandoned, I think.”

“What are the odds you’re willing to stay here and remain safe while I go check this out?” I asked, not at all hopeful she’d agree.

As expected, she shook her head. “None. Not if Charlie might be there.”

“Alright, then it’s time to go.” I threw back the covers, exposing our naked bodies.

Less than thirty minutes later, I squeezed Maisey’s hand as I gripped the steering wheel harder with my other one. We bounced down a gravel road leading toward an old red barn in the distance.

Maisey stayed rigid beside me in her car as her gaze scanned the horizon in silence.

“We’re going to get him back,” I said to remind her that I would not fail.

I hated the fear stretched out behind her eyes.

“What if Jonathan hurt him somehow?”

I slowed the car as we drove closer to the farmhouse. “No, he wouldn’t do that. Trust me.”

Even a stupid man wouldn’t hurt his hostage. Charlie was the only piece of leverage Jonathan had against Maisey. He wouldn’t lose that. I left out the reasons why. She didn’t need more stress.

Maisey nodded, but she didn’t look convinced.

“Let’s stop here,” I said as we broke through a small row of trees next to the abandoned farmhouse. A weathered red barn sat a few hundred yards behind it, next to a collapsed fence. Overgrown weeds from a summer of missed mowing swayed in the late October breeze. The place definitely had the look of somewhere abandoned.

Except for the tire tracks that cut through the high grass straight to the barn. The perfect place to hide a truck and a dog.

I killed the engine, and for a moment neither of us moved. The farm sat silent, and I had to give it one more try to keep Maisey out of danger. “Stay here.”

She immediately glared at me. “No.”

“Maisey.” I gave her the look as I pulled the keys from the ignition.

She shook her head. “No, Rowan. I’m not leaving Charlie out there alone.”

“We discussed this.” I pinched the bridge of my nose.

She snorted. “Yes, we did, and I said I was coming.”
