Osian’s heart lurched. He put his hand on Will’s shoulder. “While I am still able, I promise I will always come and see you.”

“Why might you not be able?”

“Forces outside of my control.” Osian shrugged.

“I wish you lived around here all the time.”

“I wish I could.”

“So…” Drum filled in the sudden silence. “Osian tells me riding helps your CP.”

“It does.”

“Fancy coming out with us?”

Will’s smile faded into uncertainty. “I don’t know…”

“No pressure,” Drum said quickly.

“I haven’t ridden for a couple of weeks.”

“Then today sounds like a good day to change that,” Osian said.

Will sighed with theatrical resignation. “Give me fifteen minutes.”

Osian was already smiling as he stood. “Who shall I saddle for you?”

“Can I ride Rogue?” Will asked.

“I’ll see if Fi threatens to cut off my balls before I say yes to that.”

He and Drum headed outside. “Thank you. You worked a little miracle there.”

“I like Will.”

“I do too. He’s gay, so…”

“And he likes you.”

Osian sighed. “He knows that’s not going to happen.”

“You think that’s the reason he’s down?”

“Part of it.”

Inside the stable, Drum inhaled. “Hay, leather and horse shit. It has a certain charm.”

Fi came in holding two shovels.

“Will’s going to come out with us,” Osian said.

“Brilliant.”

“He wants to ride Rogue.”

She growled. “Now I know why I need one of these shovels. To hit you over the head and dig your grave. Bloody hell, Osian! Did you tell him he could?”

“I’d never do that without asking you. But say he can. He’s capable. Rogue will behave.”
