“I planted VANTA before Ash expelled me. Your renovation contractors imported the old infrastructure and carried my access into the new system.”

Owen scans the maintenance records.

“Every entry was classified as routine service.”

“You are finally reading the right records.”

The whole mechanism settles into place. VANTA got him through the digital doors. The forgotten service routes got him through the physical ones. Inherited infrastructure kept his access alive after Ash removed him. Routine contractor records hid his later visits. Those visits gave him time to add the batteries, bridge cables, and lock bypasses now keeping everyone trapped. Ash thought Rook was gone. The building kept carrying him forward.

Ash braces both hands against the console. Rook had months, dead corridors, inherited credentials, walls opened long enough to splice in physical bridges, and portable batteries hidden behind systems Owen thought were isolated. By the time I crossed Crimson Night’s gate, he had already built himself into the places they no longer inspected. Ash lifts his head.

“I understand what you want.”

Rook waits. Ash looks at the public waiver still frozen on one side monitor.

“I kept the language because danger sold tickets. I knew what you had done, and I convinced myself the safeguards behind the walls made the illusion acceptable.”

Cade watches him. Owen does too. Ash looks at me.

“I believed I could control which parts of the old house survived.”

His fingers curl against the edge of the console.

“I was wrong.”

The confession changes nothing outside this room. Mark remains tied to the chair. Evan is bleeding somewhere across the property. Staff remain trapped behind doors built to make helplessness entertaining. But for the first time since Rook appeared, the history is no longer a pile of disconnected secrets. Ash removed Rook. He kept Crimson Night. Crimson Night kept enough of Rook to let him back inside. Cade moves to the physical map.

“You should’ve told us before tonight.”

Ash joins him.

“I should have told you before we reopened the first door.”

“And the waiver should’ve changed.”

“It should have.”

Owen slides between them and the route map.

“Rewrite it later. Mark is still restrained, and the timer is still moving.”

Ash straightens.

“We get Mark. We get Evan outside. Then Crimson Night closes.”

Rook answers immediately.

“There it is again. You still believe you decide when the experience ends.”

The theater feed tightens around Mark. He twists one hand inside the restraint. His thumb clears the binding for a fraction of a second before disappearing again. Rook gives no indication he noticed. Cade does. Owen does too. Neither says anything.

The attraction music returns across the property. Every monitor carrying trapped staff changes to the same countdown.

04:12:36.

Four hours until dawn. Four hours before whatever Rook considers the end of his version of Crimson Night.

Ash reaches for the physical map while Rook places both hands on the back of Mark’s chair.
