“We weren’t arguing,” we said in unison.

“No,” Briggs drawled, chuckling. “They were flirting.”

I tipped my head. “A little bit, yeah. We came to an agreement, though.”

“Sure, Love.” Palmer shrugged noncommittally. “If that’s what you want, then you can have it. You know what I want.”

“Is it anal?” York asked, pursing his lips as he nodded to himself. “It’s definitely anal.”

Palmer and I glanced at my druid, giving him curious looks as we both said, “No.”

“It’s not anal,” Novak told York. “She wants another tattoo.”

“Again, no,” I replied. “Where are you getting these guesses from?”

“She’s probably hangry,” Briggs whispered to my vampire.

I blinked twice before smiling at Palmer. “They really couldn’t hear us?”

He shook his head, tickled with himself and his spell.

“Oh, the possibilities,” I sang.

“Are we going to lie here all day?” Stone asked again. “Don’t get me wrong. The scenery is beautiful with all the trees and flowers and shit… But I had more fun in Hell. Let’s go there and start a bar fight or something.”

“That’s not a bad idea,” Vaughn mentioned. “I feel like the ground is swallowing me whole.”

Novak gasped, nearly falling off the log he was perched on. “You want to start a fight? The rule-following royalty, who always needs order over chaos?”

My fae blew out a frustrated breath. “Yeah. All the peace and tranquility is putting me to sleep.”

“Always on the fucking move,” York muttered. “You bastards have no idea what relaxing feels like.”

Shifter Situations - Chapter 28

Alternate POV

Night

I followed Sloane down the path, past the patio and pool, to the other side of the estate. And I thought I was being sneaky, just trying to soak in the quiet calm she was exuding before I asked her to do something I knew she would hate.

Her steps slowed as she glanced over her shoulder, but I simply smirked, bouncing my fingers to motion her forward. The sight was too enticing to give up so easily. Watching her hips sway was mesmerizing and soothing.

“Did you want to join me, or were you working on your stalking skills?” she sassed, waiting for me to reach her.

“I was enjoyin’ the view,” I retorted, gazing at the sky only to realize it was a blank black canvas.

“The stars are lovely tonight,” she sarcastically acknowledged.

“Well, go on then,” I encouraged. “Keep gazin’, and I’ll do the same.”

She snorted, grabbing my hand and pilling me to her side. “I’m going to check on Pete, see how he likes all the open space.”

I threaded my fingers through hers as we continued down the path, wondering when this became such a common touch to share. Her hand felt small in my grasp, delicate but warm, and I couldn’t force myself to release her.

I raised a brow, deflecting my thoughts before I accidentally shouted them at her. “Yer goin’ to make sure the hellhounds aren't driving him insane.”
