“He’s already got most of her mates,” the second minion tells him. “Isn’t that enough to draw her out?”

“It doesn’t matter,” a third minion barks, cutting off the conversation. “Boss says get the girl, so we get the fucking girl.”

Walker holds his arm out, stopping me from going farther into my house.

“It’s a trap,” he mumbles.

“I know.”

“You can’t let them take you.”

I shake my head. “Wasn’t planning on it.”

“Kody.” Walker frowns. “If they take me, you can not let them take you too.”

“What—”

“I’m going upstairs,” he whispers. “You’re staying down here.”

I don’t like this, but he’s right. They can’t take us both to Clay. Someone’s got to save my guys. And Walker knows I can handle this.

So do I.

“I’m trusting you to make this decision,” I tell him.

He bends and quickly kisses me. “This will work.”

“Just know when I show up to save your ass, I’m ending this bullshit with Clay.”

“I know, Blondie.” He grins. “That’s my part of the plan. Everything after this is at your discretion.”

I sigh. “I love you.”

“Love you more.”

Walker heads upstairs, not bothering to keep his steps quiet. I slink into the kitchen, grabbing a knife from the block before squatting behind the island, waiting to ambush anyone who finds me.

Shouts echo down the stairwell as a cold nose touches my arm. Hooker lies at my side, ready to defend me, but he won’t move until I give the word.

On the other hand… Pimp wanders through the house, staying away from me as he meows obnoxiously.

I swear, he sounds like someone gave him a megaphone.

But that cat is an evil genius.

“Restrain him!” a minion shouts. “She’s downstairs.”

Walker grunts.

Someone thumps against the floor.

And footsteps follow.

The men carry a struggling Walker down the stairs, heaving and panting as he gives them the fight of their life. My mate has a cloth draped over his nose and mouth, and he thrashes his head, trying to dislodge it.

They take him out the front door. I hear the hatch of an SUV open and close before their footsteps lead them back into my house. My chest squeezes for a moment, stopping my breathing, but I shove the unease away.

Walker knows what he’s doing.
