I smile, despite my racing pulse. I told my sister I’m involved in a three-way relationship, and she didn’t immediately condemn me or tell me I was no better than our father.
“I think it could be. But hey, can you keep this between us for now?”
“Of course. Not a chance I’m telling Dad, or anyone else, anything about this.”
“Thanks. And you should come out sometime and meet her. I think you’d really get along.”
Janey’s tone softens. “I’d like that. But listen, I gotta run. There’s a meeting I’ll be late for if I don’t go now.”
“Okay. Thanks for telling me about Mom and Dad. If you need anything from me, just call, okay?”
“I will. Love you, Griff.”
“Love you, too.”
I hang up the phone and let my head fall back against the wall with an exhale. My mind is racing with the news about my parents, overshadowing the fact that I actually confessed my relationship to my sister.
“I knew this would happen.”
I spin around at that smug voice to see Cal grinning at me. “Seriously, called it. You two totally give platonic life partner vibes, it only made sense that you’d share a woman.” He strides toward me, lifting his hand for a high five. When I don’t immediately reciprocate, he nods at his hand. “C’mon, don’t leave me hanging.”
Instead of slapping his hand, I fold my arms across my chest and try to look intimidating. “You’re gonna keep this quiet, right?”
He lowers his hand, his grin fading away. “I mean, sure, of course I will. But you have to know, no one here would judge you guys.”
I nod slowly. I think he’s right, the Thunder have always been a pretty open-minded group of guys. Still, there’s no chance I want this getting out before Liv, Foxxy, and I have a chance to figure shit out between us first.
“I’d still appreciate it if you didn’t say anything to anyone.” I narrow my gaze at him. “Not even Juniper. Olivia will tell her when she’s ready.”
Cal mimes zipping his mouth shut. “Got it.”
I exhale. “Good. I’m gonna hit the weights. You in?”
He shakes his head. “Nah, Coach just called a team meeting. Didn’t you get the text?”
I glance down at my phone and there it is. Rafe is calling everyone in for a mandatory meeting, either in person or via video conferencing. It’s a sure bet I know what he wants to discuss. “Right. Okay, guess we better go.”
Foxxy’s accident might have been the catalyst for Liv finally admitting her true feelings for us, but goddamn if it didn’t complicate a hell of a lot of things. If we lose this season because he can’t pitch for most of it, I’ll kill him.
Okay, I won’t, but only because it would make Olivia upset. And from here on out, my mission is simple.
Make Olivia Svensson feel happy and loved. No matter what.

“If I had known falling out of a tree would be the key to getting you to fall for me, I would’ve done it a lot sooner,” I quip as soon as Olivia and Griff return to the hospital. I don’t exactly remember what I said when I was coming out of the anesthesia I had for surgery, but based on the texts I exchanged with Griff, I said some things I probably wouldn’t have said otherwise.
Thankfully, he also told me she wasn’t upset by anything I said. Which is confirmed when my Pixie girl hurries over to my bedside, her hands fluttering around like she’s not sure where to put them.
“Denver, you scared the crap out of us. Don’t you dare make jokes about this, you needed surgery!”
I carefully lift my injured arm and instantly regret it when pain lances through me. “Well aware, Pix.” I reach up with my good hand and cup her cheek. “And I’m sorry. For a lot of things. We should probably make a list.”
Olivia’s shaking her head as she sits down on the bed beside me and takes my hand in hers. “No, you don’t have anything to apologize for, I do. I’m sorry I kept pushing you both away.” She glances up at Griff, who steps closer and places his hand on her upper back with a nod. Looking back at me, she continues. “You were right, I was scared. So freaking terrified of what other people might think, and so afraid I didn’t deserve what you both were offering. I couldn’t understand how it could work, and instead of being willing to simply try, I tried to deny my feelings and pretend if this was never anything serious, none of us could get hurt.”
She sucks in a deep breath, and I hate seeing tears glistening in her eyes.
