There was no alcohol involved this time. No truth or dare, no extenuating circumstances. Just…us.
Part of me wants to be mad at Foxxy for just taking over and somehow landing us all back here together. But the other part of me is so grateful he did, because this? Waking up with her in my arms?
Feels too damn good to be true.
She shifts, letting out the cutest little noise. This might be the last time I get to hold her, and my arms tighten around her reflexively. She manages to roll over, lifting sleepy blue eyes to meet mine.
“Hi,” she whispers, snuggling into my chest.
“Good morning,” I murmur back, kissing the top of her head. The door slams open, and my shithead of a best friend walks in, wearing only his underwear and an apron, and wielding a spatula.
“Rise and shine, you two. Breakfast is almost ready.”
“What?” Olivia pushes up onto one elbow, her lips curving up.
Foxxy winks at her. “You heard me, beautiful. Oh, you’re gonna need some more eggs. I made breakfast wraps.” He turns and walks away, whistling some indecipherable tune.
“Is he always like that in the morning?” Liv looks down at me with that soft smile.
“Like a hyped-up Chihuahua? Yeah, pretty much,” I grumble as I swing my legs over the side of the bed and take a deep breath.
I grab my clothes and pull them on as quickly as I can, hustling out of her bedroom while she’s still getting dressed.
“What the fuck are you doing?” I ask in a harsh whisper when I enter the kitchen. Foxxy looks up from the plate he’s putting some fruit onto, wearing a giant grin.
“Making breakfast for our girl.”
“She’s not our girl. This was a onetime thing, Foxxy. It can’t happen again.”
The asshole just smirks. “Pretty sure it’s been twice now. And it could definitely happen again.”
I can’t say anything back because Olivia wanders in, coming up short when she sees Foxxy, still wearing the apron and grinning like a fool.
“Um, Denver? What’s all this?” she asks.
“Breakfast, Pix.” He ambles over to her and kisses the side of her head. “Want to help me finish the muffins?”
She gives him a cautious smile, but nods and lets him take her hand and lead her back around the counter.
A paw scratches at my leg, and I bend down to pet Trip’s head. Foxxy and Liv are laughing as he wraps his arms around her middle and they stir the muffin batter. She turns a pleading look my way, but her eyes are shining with happiness.
“Can you make me some tea, please? I need caffeine if I’m expected to bake this early in the morning.”
I give her a soft smile. “On it.”
“You’re an angel,” she moans a few moments later when I place a steaming cup of tea in front of her.
“Hey, what about me?” Foxxy teases as he closes the oven door on the muffins.
“You’re a menace,” she answers without missing a beat.
I chuckle over my coffee. “Got it in one.”
“You be quiet, or no breakfast.” Foxxy points at me with a glare before turning a grin in Liv's direction. “Go sit down, beautiful. I’ll bring your food over.”
We’re halfway through eating breakfast when it happens. Foxxy takes it too far.
“Damn, these muffins taste better than normal,” he moans, rubbing his stomach. “Must be because you helped.” He winks at Olivia. “We’ll be ready for round three in no time.”
