“Contacts.”
He moves almost silently toward me, and I swallow, my chest heaving, desire lighting a trail through my body that appears to bend to this stranger, the common slut that she is.
“You want to talk.”
“Talk?”
I swallow hard because talking isn’t the first thing on my mind right now.
“I do.”
“Then talk.”
His tone is rough, almost disinterested, and a sudden burst of hatred sharpens my desire for him. Men are not disinterested in me – ever.
Why do I find that so arousing?
“It’s my turn to ask a favor.”
“You don’t have that right.”
His tone is cruel, dismissive, and arrogant.
“I have every right.”
“What makes you say that? You are paid well for your assistance. That is all we want from you.”
“But–” I hesitate because I never expected this. I thought my help counted for something and I was one of them now.
He advances slowly, the danger compelling as the masked stranger enters my bedroom.
“What if I told you it involved a murderer?”
My voice is low, husky, desperate.
He reaches me, his scent almost overpowering as he stops just short, his gaze penetrating mine, stripping me bare.
“I’m listening.”
“I want you to help me avenge my father’s death. To kill the man who murdered him. An eye for an eye, isn’t that what they say?”
I shiver under his icy glare as he whispers, “Sophie Clere, raised by Robert and Alison Clere in Michigan. She attended college to learn drama and moved to Los Angeles four years ago. Her first job involved waiting on tables where she met Frankie Frederick, a prominent agent.”
His eyes flash as he reaches out and drags his finger down my face and whispers huskily, “Her break came with a small part in a movie that became a huge box office success. She enjoyed being the new face in town, and the public fell in love with her character. Her parents attended her premiere and returned to Michigan where they live a comfortable life.”
His tone changes as he lowers it, deadly, hypnotic, devastating.
“Your father is alive, Sophie, so what is the real reason you summoned me here?”
CHAPTER 4
ANGEL
Ishouldn’t have come. My curiosity will be my downfall because Sophie Clere has long since starred not just in the movies I watch but in my dreams. She fascinates me. When I watch her from afar, I can’t tear my eyes away. She commands every thought in my head when she is around, and it’s concerning.
Tonight was no exception because seeing her in Giovanni’s arms confused me.
I didn’t like it.
