Eight months later

I kissed her hand, my thumb brushing over the large diamond on her left finger as we swayed side to side. The very one I put there last month. When I asked her to be my wife.

Since Rogue moved in, my life has been…easier, lighter, happier.

Maybe it was having Rogue’s love, or her in my bed every night, or the insane sex we had. Maybe it was the healing my soul needed, my grief no longer choking and drowning me. Or maybe it was just her. Plain and simple.

“I love you so much.” I said to her as I spun her in my arms, our nightly ritual of dancing under the stars having become my favorite thing of all time.

“I love you too,” Rogue said but her cheeks went white, her usual flush disappearing from her complexion. A look passed over her face and concern gnawed at my insides.

“Are you okay? Do you need to sit? You look a little pale.” I led her to the porch chair and helped her sit. “Let me grab you some water.”

“Just pass me my wine. I’ll be fine.” Rogue pointed to her glass, but then she turned as white as a ghost and jerked forward, vomiting her dinner at her feet. “Oh no,” she groaned.

“Aw, shit, don’t worry about it. It’s washable. Let’s get you inside.” I lifted her into my arms and carried her inside, the vomit and wine glasses forgotten about for now.

Upstairs, I brought her into the bathroom and set her down in front of the toilet. I grabbed a hair elastic off the counter and helped her tie her hair back as she puked again, this time in the toilet.

I rubbed her back and fetched her a glass of water. After a few more rounds, she sipped her water slowly. “Can you run me a bath?”

“Of course. Want me to get in with you?”

She nodded, her eyes slipping closed. “I’d like that. Maybe it was something I ate. I’ve been feeling off since I woke up.”

“I’m sorry, sugar. Maybe your period is coming? I know you said sometimes you get an upset stomach when—”

“Oh my God,” Rogue interrupted me, her face going as white as a ghost again.

“What? What is it? Are you going to be sick again?”

“My period…it’s….it’s late.”

I realized what she was hinting at. “Oh shit, how late?”

“Like three weeks?” Tears pricked her eyes, and I pulled her into my arms.

“It’s okay, don’t worry. I’ll run to the pharmacy and get a test.”

“Yes, but…I…I don’t know if I’m ready and…”

“Shh, it’s okay. We’ll handle it. However you want, okay? I’m there for you. Every step of the way.”

And the next day, Rogue came out of the bathroom, holding a small plastic stick, with two very pink lines on it.

She was pregnant. With my baby.

My soon to be wife was about to have my baby.

I cried happy tears as I wished my father could be here to experience it all.

Two months later, we were married.

And when our son was born several months later, we named him after my father, Frankie.
