“They can’t. This is impossible.” I shook my head again.

“It’s not impossible, and you love me more than just as a friend,” he smirked. “Admit it.” His right hand dropped from my cheek and reached for my ribs.

“Stop! No! No tickling.”

His fingers started to brush against my ribs. Just a feather touch. More of a threat, not a real tickle. But it was enough for me to say what I desperately wanted to say.

“I admit it. I’m in love with you too!”

He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me close. “You are a romantic fool, Millie Jane.”

I felt my bottom lip begin to wobble.

I loved him. I was in love with him.

He loved me. He was in love with me.

How was this even possible?

“It’s possible because we deserve happiness in our lives,” Renzo said as he bent forward and touched his lips to mine.

Chapter Fifteen

I felt peace settle deep in my heart. Millie didn’t know it yet, but she was going to marry me. She was going to marry me, Irv was going to give her away, and she would walk toward me from underneath the canopy of peach and apple blossoms in her orchard, and my entire family, including Grandma Maureen, would be watching on.

Her breath caught as I brushed my lips against hers for a third time. The fourth time I didn’t brush her lips with mine, I settled against her sweetness and coaxed her to open for me. She did…with a whimper of need.

Millie wrapped her arms around my neck and held on for dear life and I gloried in the feeling. I wanted her to need me, I wanted to be her person.

I slid my tongue along the seam of her lips and relished her immediate response. She invited me in for a delicate dance of tongues. My cock twitched when I heard her innocent mewl of need as she twisted closer to me. I desperately needed to get her out of the soft blue sweater she’d been wearing all day. Twice now she’d worn leggings instead of jeans, and this time she’d worn a damn sweater that had covered her heart-shaped ass. It was a crime against humanity.

What’s more, I wanted to see if she wore a lacy bra or a plain bra. I was hoping it was lacy like those lacy panties I’d seen on Sunday night.

Millie nipped my bottom lip, and all thoughts of her sweater or ass rocketed out of my consciousness, all I was aware of was the writhing, beautiful woman who was in my arms, catapulting me to a level of need I had never experienced before.

I don’t know when she’d moved her arms, but I felt her nails biting into my chest through my Cristal fútbol club jersey. She wasn’t clawing me; it was as if she were a kitten, kneading her way into my chest, into my heart, and it was working.

She broke away from my lips to look into my eyes. Her lips were swollen and glistening in the yellow lamplight.

When had I turned off the TV?

“Tonight is more than kisses, right?”

I nodded.

“You promise?”

This time as I brushed back the hair that had fallen out of her ponytail, I went further, and pulled out the band that was holding her mane and delighted in the lush fall of her hair as it danced around her shoulders and back.

“Yes, Cariña. I promise.”

“I love it when you call me that. It makes me feel special.”

“You are special. You’re the woman I love.”

Her eyelids fluttered shut.

I tilted her chin up.
