“It’s complicated,” Raiden answered.
Harry sighed. “It always is.”
“I just appreciate you being able to pull away from base. You’re the only one I knew who was close.”
“Hell, Raiden, there are plenty of guys in any arm of the services who would be more than happy to have your back, all you ever have to do is make a call. Fort Huachuca is just one of many places you could tap.”
It felt good to hear.
“I should be pulling off the highway in about ten minutes; what do I need to know?”
“I’m staying here with Lisa. I’ve got you and Camilla booked at the Marriott. I want her covered coming and going.”
“Is there a reason why you’re so concerned about security? Not that I think it’s wrong, considering the fact I’m in Military Intelligence I always think security is a good thing, but just saying, escorting a lady to and from a hotel could seem, to some people, a little over the top.”
“That’s another reason I called you. Lisa called in to the sheriff a little less than two weeks ago. She thought she heard something. When they looked around they didn’t see any footprints, but they did say there had been a disturbance. I’d like you to find out what you can about their report.”
“So there is something,” Harry said.
“I’ve just got a feeling on this. I can’t explain it. Lisa’s been in a bad way since we rescued her in Mexico. Total PTSD. I’m sure they brushed it under the rug. But too much has happened to her, she can’t take another hit, so she won’t. You hear me?”
“I hear you. And Nic’s wife?”
“She’s not his wife yet. Her name is Camilla Ross. She was rescued down in Mexico too. But they have a long past. They knew each other six years ago. My guess is he’ll have his ring on her finger before a year is out.”
Harry chuckled. “Good man. So what’s your concern with her?”
“She’s here to support Lisa. She dropped everything to be here. She’s just pulling out after all she went through down there, so I want to make sure that somebody’s got her back, while I’m here at Lisa’s house.”
“Is there a reason you’re not all just staying at Lisa’s?”
“Yeah.”
“You going to tell me?” Harry asked.
“No.”
“Well okay then.”
Raiden smiled. Harry was wrong; there might be a lot of men he could’ve tapped to help him out, but not many like Harry who would know which questions to ask and which ones not to ask.

It was past midnight. Harry had taken Cami to the Marriott. She’d been nice about it, but she’d still given Raiden a look that said they’d be having words later. He really didn’t care, as long as she was safe. That’s all he wanted, everyone to be safe.
Once again he left the lounge chair close to the guest bedroom window so he could hear Lisa if she needed him during the night. He hadn’t gotten a whole hell of a lot of sleep last night, so he skipped reading a book, and instead just let himself drift.
“Raiden?”
He didn’t open his eyes, though his body was on instant alert. Then he rolled over as he realized Lisa’s voice had come from the living room and she was walking toward the patio door. He sat up.
“Yeah, honey?”
He heard the door open a little bit.
“Uhm.”
He waited, not wanting to do anything that might throw her off course. This was her play. But then when she didn’t say anything else, he finally said her name again.
