I folded my arms.
“You’re going to have to look at me if you want to be specific.”
Hesitantly, his gaze lifted. It started at the dirt, caught on my bare feet, then traveled slowly up my legs. His expression changed almost immediately, growing more focused as the scent of his arousal sharpened in the night air.
He opened his mouth.
Nothing came out.
“Well?” I prompted, smirking as I planted a hand on my hip.
That seemed to break something loose. His eyes moved over me again, slower this time, really looking.
“Your legs,” he said finally. “They’re strong. Your thighs are…” He swallowed. “Jesus, Maeve. They look like you could crush a man between them.”
A laugh escaped me. “Poetic.”
“I’m serious.” He took a step closer. “Your arms too. Your shoulders. Your back. You’re built like you could throw me through a wall, but then your waist curves in here…”
His gaze dropped to my hips and he took a step towards me.
“And your mouth.”
“My mouth?”
Another step.
“It’s always scowling at me.”
I snorted.
“But it’s still pretty.” His voice had gone quieter now. “Especially when you’re trying not to smile.”
He moved closer again until only a few feet separated us. His eyes dipped once more, then lifted to mine.
“And the rest of you is…” He exhaled roughly. “Distracting.”
“That’s not very specific, Boy Scout.”
“No.” Another step brought him directly in front of me. “I think if I get any more specific, I’m going to embarrass myself.”
I tipped my chin up, holding his gaze.
“Little late for that.”
His eyes dropped to my mouth as he closed the last of the distance between us. Just as he leaned in, I hooked one foot around his ankle, wrapped my arms around his neck, and pulled.
His expression flashed with surprise a second before we both crashed into the chilly pond.
“What the hell, Firecracker?” Sammy sputtered, wiping water from his eyes.
I laughed, already backing away from him. “Distraction is a rookie mistake, Boy Scout. One you keep making!”
I turned to swim away, but Sammy recovered faster than I expected. His hand closed around my ankle, and with one sharp tug, he dragged me backward through the water.
“Then I guess I need more practice.”
My legs wrapped around his torso almost instinctively as he pulled me closer. I was beginning to realize how natural this had become between us. It was just easy, the closeness, the intimacy, and the way our bodies seemed to fit together without either of us having to think about it.
