"But there aren’t even dorms here."

"There aren’t."

That only confused me further. I looked up at him.

"Then where exactly are we sleeping?"

"In the instructors’ quarters."

I blinked.

"What?"

Cutter smirked.

"The outpost only has one main barracks for recruits and a separate building for instructors. Graves has his own room. The rest of us are sharing."

I looked back at the paper.

"You’re taking the spare room. Alvarez and I are doubling up to make space."

"I didn’t ask for that."

"No one said you did."

"I don’t understand why Command still thinks I need special treatment."

Cutter barked out a laugh.

"This wasn’t Command."

I stilled.

"What do you mean?"

He crossed his arms.

"It wasn’t Command who insisted on keeping you separate before."

I narrowed my eyes.

"And it isn’t Command insisting now."

"Then who?!"

"Graves," Cutter said as his grin faded.

"I was told it was Command protocol. That there’d been... an incident."

Before Cutter could answer, Alvarez stepped up beside him, having clearly heard enough of our conversation to understand where this was going.

"There was," Alvarez said plainly.

I looked between them. "What incident?"

Cutter crossed his arms.

"Seven years ago, there was another female alpha recruit in Specter training."
