This place was comfort. He was comfort. I knew it had been built for him and another, so it stayed on my mind that this place was never meant for me. Neither was living until the age I was now. I’d let fear dictate my every move, my every decision, and because of that fear, I was running. If not running from somewhere physically, I was running from somewhere mentally, retreating into myself, into little space, where nobody could get to me.

That’s what I was doing now. Retreating in the living room, watching cartoons on the soft sofa with my new teddy in my arms, and Misty pressing her paws into it like she was trying to push it away because of how I held onto it.

Harlan came back in as it grew darker outside, his plaid shirt wrapped around his waist, and a tight white tank top all covered in dirt. His muscles were pumping harder, his heart beating faster, and his eyes growing wider.

“Everything okay?” I asked, spooking Misty with the speed I stood.

“Yeah, just chopped wood,” he said. “Why? You heard something?”

“No, I—”

He smirked at me. “You don’t have to be worried about me, Micah. I can handle myself. I promise you that.”

I nodded, trying to force the knitted brow of concern off my face. “As long as you’re okay. I thought you were going to—”

“No,” he said, cutting me off and shaking his head. “They’re not outside. Not from what I could tell. But it’s fine. You’re safe here. And I’ve got some surprises for them if they do decide to show up.”

“Oh. Like what?”

“Special lights,” he said. “UV lights, strong beams. Metal halide bulbs. I was told they’d work. They emit UV rays or something. I’m hoping it works.”

“Wait. When did you buy those?”

“Earlier in the supermarket. They’ve got a hardware section. They’re motion sensored, so you’re extra safe, and they’re extra in trouble if they try coming back here,” he said.

“You smell like outside.” The earthy musk of his body sent tingles to my toes and my thighs together. “Can I shower with you?” I asked, trying to be sweet with my wants.

“I was going to ask,” he said. “Do I smell that bad?”

I licked my lips. “In a good way.” My heightened senses cut through his body odor and right to the pheromones his sweat put out. It revealed his attraction to me, stinking up the room like they wanted to suffocate and touch me.

“Good.” He swiped fingers down his arm then my face. “Now you’re dirty too. You’ve gotta shower.”

I giggled. “Is that all you’ve got?”

“Oh, you want to be filthy?”

I threw the teddy on the sofa and Misty immediately claimed it, laying her body on it like she was absorbing my smell from it, or just the jealousy of how attached I’d been to it.

Harlan lifted me up into his arms, rubbing himself all over me, getting his dirt on me and my clothes. I was just like a cat then, and I loved it, every second of him against me, his scratchy facial hair like a scrubber, tickling me.

In the bathroom, we were undressed in seconds, our clothes in a combined heap on the floor. Our naked bodies rubbed against each other, then the shower spat out cold water. Harlan’s back shielded me from it, but I didn’t mind too much. Cold water and hot water kind of felt the same when it touched me, like little zaps of electricity.

We cleaned each other, and I snapped mental pictures of him from all angles, in all his beefed-up glory. His body was like a loofah, taking up the suds and swiffering my body to get me all clean. It tickled to the point my dick swelled hard. He touched it and turned me to face him, the warm water now showering the suds away from both of our bodies.

He leaned in. “I don’t want you to go,” he said, kissing me.

My lips latched onto his lips, and he swept his tongue into my mouth, doing his best to beat my tongue into submission, to tell me to stay. I didn’t fight back. My tongue was still restless, though, the tip prodding at his tongue, until his tongue touched my canine and the taste of his blood hit me.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” I pushed away, throwing him into the wall and myself into the opposite tile. “I didn’t mean to.” I shook, my body caving in on itself as I squatted to the ground in the cold as the shower tap turned off.

“Hey, hey.” His voice was soft, as he came down to my level with his big wholesome smile. “It’s okay. You don’t have to push me away. Literally.” He let out a laugh.

“I’m sorry, I don’t—” I sucked in deep. Seeing him completely naked and wet in front of me brought a smile. “I never know how to handle it. I don’t—I don’t bite.”

“But you can,” he said.
