She was frustrated by those precious seconds that he took to slip on a condom. But then he was inside her and everything was forgotten as a tidal wave of bliss flooded her entire body, causing her toes to curl.

How long had it been since she’d felt something like this?

Then he started moving, and she realized that the answer was never. Being with Carter was like nothing she had ever experienced. Something that she couldn’t explain.

She wished she could bottle up the feeling and sell it. To hold onto that moment for the rest of her life.

As everything inside her exploded in a blinding light, she wondered if anyone else could ever make her feel like this again.

That thought scared her so much that she excused herself the moment after their bodies had cooled.

She stayed locked in the bathroom until he called out. “Did you want to grab some dinner?”

“No, it’s… no thanks. I forgot I have…” Shit. What? “Maybe tomorrow,” she called out, rolling her eyes.

“Sure,” Carter said from the other side of the door. “Kara?”

“Yeah?” She leaned her head on the door and wished he’d just go away so that she could convince herself that it hadn’t been that good. That she hadn’t just had the best sex of her life.

“I don’t do one-time sexcapades,” he said softly, as if he was very close to the door. “I’ll see you tomorrow. Good night.”

She waited until she heard him leave, then gently banged her head on the door a few times.

She was an idiot.

The next day, just before lunch, Carter showed up with a picnic lunch. He made a point to tell Andrea that there was enough for the three of them and that he was just paying them back for including him yesterday.

However, Andrea had already made plans with someone, though she didn’t say who, and she suggested that they enjoy the lunch just the two of them.

Since she was stuck and didn’t want to be rude, she quickly suggested they eat by the pool instead of the beach. That would save them a quiet walk down the many pathways of the campgrounds.

Instead, Carter suggested they head down to the docks and eat there.

She couldn’t deny those sexy chocolate eyes and nodded in agreement.

By the time they reached the edge of the docks, her body was vibrating with the memory of what they’d done the day before.

When they reached the boathouse, she thought her desires were under control, but then she pulled him inside the building and basically attacked him.

He met her passion head-on and took her quickly up against the doorway of the boathouse.

The following day, Andrea suggested that she could make a little extra cash if she filled in during dinner for a waitress who’d called out sick.

That night’s dinner was themed, and she was given a hula skirt and a red bikini top and lei to wear while serving drinks to tables.

She made over two hundred dollars in tips and decided to fill in whenever she could. After all, she was in desperate need of a new car.

After all the guests had left, she stayed behind to help clean up. Carter appeared and suggested that he walk her back to her car.

She’d tried to convince herself that it was just sex as they squeezed into his truck, her on top of him, riding him uncontrollably while he held onto her hips as if his life depended on it.

She told herself that she could stop seeing him at any time. He was just a means to an end—her release.

She continued to hold in all of the feelings she’d had to quash and hide deep down inside her during those years when her tears gave another evil pleasure.

She wasn’t ready to release everything just yet. There were so many feelings she wasn’t comfortable showing—or for that matter, feeling—yet.

However, as the days turned into weeks, and then into months, she knew that she was fooling herself.
