“You missed it, it was almost two hours ago.” She stopped directly in front of him.

“Right.” He removed his hat and wiped a bead of sweat from his brow. The night had cooled, thankfully, but he was still hoping for a cold shower.

“Have you heard from Grant yet?” Maggie asked.

“No, I’m sure he’ll call in the morning.” He rested his hand on her hip when she leaned against him.

Then her eyes met his. “Remember our first time together?”

“Maggie,” he groaned out a warning.

He was still worked up from the ride, and there was a lick of anger still boiling deep in his gut. If he touched her now, he doubted he would be gentle, which he knew she still needed.

She shook her head and leaned a little heavier on him.

“No, don’t shy away from me. I want the passion you used to give me.” She took his hat from his hands and set it on a hook behind his head. Then she took his hand and, after looking in several stalls, she picked a clean one and shut the door behind them before turning back to him. “I need you,” she said before kissing him.

It was all he needed, her permission to let loose. One minute they were standing, the next there was hay in her hair as he covered her.

He should have thought to lay out a blanket. He should have carried her into the house.

Instead, he let the animal that had been clawing inside him for the past year free. He heard material tear. Felt buttons pop free. Grunted and howled when he finally embedded himself deep inside her.

Primal. This was who he was. An animal. Something that only she could tame or control.

Her nails scraped his skin, no doubt leaving marks, which only made him move faster and harder.

Taking her ponytail in his fist, he yanked her head back and trailed his teeth across her jawline. She bucked under him, moaned with pleasure, and begged him for more.

When he filled her with his release, she cried out his name, which somehow made him want her even more.

“My god, Maggie,” he said, breathing heavily into her hair. She smelled of spring flowers, fresh hay, and sex. The combination was intoxicating.

“Rick, don’t move. Don’t you dare move. I want to die right here,” she said into his ear.

He chuckled. “I’m not sure how your aunt and uncle will feel when they discover us in the morning,” he pointed out.

“Who cares.” She sighed as her fingers lazily ran over his bare ass.

“How’d we get naked?” he asked, earning a chuckle from Maggie.

He glanced around and spotted their clothes thrown all over the stall.

“I sure hope this stall was cleaned really well,” he said.

She laughed again. “It was. I checked.”

“Are you okay?” he asked after a moment. He felt her shiver a few times and knew that she’d cooled off. Since there wasn’t a blanket anywhere, he figured that they’d need to head inside soon.

“Yes, I’m better than okay now. You?” she asked.

“Much better now. We’ll head inside in a few moments.”

“I’m good here.”

“You’re cold,” he pointed out. “When we build our own barn, we’ll make sure to put a cot or bed somewhere in it.”

Maggie laughed. “Like hell we will. I refuse to sleep in a barn.”
