“Champagne?” Nathaniel asked. “It might help settle your nerves.”

Kira nodded. “Yes, please.”

They drank several glasses on the balcony, sitting close beside each other on the bench as they watched the sun go down. In Nathaniel’s easy company, she could almost forget her troubles, but the nervous butterflies dancing in her stomach made her feel on edge and nauseous. As the last of the light faded, Nathaniel set his glass down with a clink and turned to her, his expression serious.

“I have to tell you something, Kira.”

“Oh?” Her stomach tingled with butterflies, even though there was a note of finality to his words.

“Yes.

“I need you to know that I love you with all my heart. You are my soulmate. No matter what happens, no matter what we endure and who we wake up beside in the future, there will never be another for me.” He cupped her face, leaning close. “There is only you. And if I could ask for an entire lifetime with you, it would not be enough.”

Her breathing hitched as his lips grazed hers. She was on the precipice of losing him, and the words came easily. “I love you too, Nathaniel. You’re the only one I want to be with. It took me a while to figure that out. But I respect you, and I trust you enough to follow you anywhere.”

And this is not what I want.

If only he would bite her, then he would hear her thoughts and know her heart. Then maybe, he would talk her out of this ridiculous task she’d set her mind to.

“Nathaniel,” she began, her voice small and pained.

He closed the final distance between them and kissed her, the intense press of his lips feeling both desperate and final. He pulled her into his chest, gripping her tight as if he was afraid to let go. Despite his tight embrace, Kira could feel a heartbreaking chasm opening up between them, threatening to wrench them apart.

And then a knock came from the suite door.

“They’re here,” she squeaked as fear and nerves spiralled through her like a hurricane. She clutched Nathaniel’s shirt, burying her head against his chest, seeking warmth and safety.

Seeking his protection.

It made her confess what she really felt. “I’m scared,” she whispered.

Nathaniel drew back and appraised her.

“You can do this, pet. You’re the strongest person I’ve ever met. The fiercest wolf that ever existed. I’ll be here, and I won’t let anything bad happen to you. Everything will be all right.” He hesitated. “Do you want me to help you?”

She knew what he meant by ‘help’. To take over, dominate her, to take the stress of choice away as he ordered her to do his bidding. It was a huge thing to entrust him with in a moment like this…but it was the only way she would be able to follow through without puking all over the carpet.

Her eyes welled with tears.

“Yes,” she said, flinching as the knock came at the door again, louder this time.

“Shh, don’t worry about them,” Nathaniel said, brushing away a tear as it rolled down her cheek. “Look at me.”

She took a shuddery breath, and felt an instant calm as the blue pools of his eyes drew her in, his voice unwavering as he spoke.

“Go into the bedroom, remove this robe, and wait on the bed. When Mark enters, you will spread your legs for him and take his cock like a good slut. And you will do so without protest because I asked you to. Can you do that for me?”

Kira drew a deep breath, her lungs filling with air as Nathaniel’s calmness and strength steadied her.

All she had to do was follow his orders.

I can do this.

She met his gaze.

“Yes, sir.”
